Over the past couple of days, I have seen the statistic of 75% of prison being filled with Christians.

Regardless of whether one believes that this is due to the fact that many people in America claim Christianity as their faith, yet they do not practice, is not the issue.

I was just wondering, can someone find me a site with this statistic? I would like a credible source, not some anti-Christian website.

Thanks in advance for the help!

No. I was looking for a credible source such as something to do with United States prisons. I am just looking for verification that someone is not pulling this statistic out of their butt. But people like you make me assume that is what is happening.

Mr. Taco-
Well, the other statistic heard is that 12% of US citizens are atheists, but they only fill less that 1% of the prison population. Thus, based on your argument, 12% of the prison population should be atheist. Thus, you cannot logically assume this without it being presented as fact from a credible source.

Giggly and Swindled, I completely agree with you. I'm just tired of statistics being thrown around like ragdolls. Atheists want credible sources, that's all I want.

They go in atheists (or non-practicing Christains) and come out Christan because prison makes them understand the need for mercy. Not to mention, it's usually the Christain Priest/ Minister/ who will go to give them salvation and a way for them to redeem themselves for their sins.

Good luck on a credible statistic site ... "Freedom of Religion" kinda makes this "Demegraphic" ignored as statistical data. Additionally, the non-practicing often confuse the statistic.

I don't have statistics for the prison population of the United States, but I do have this: the total percentage of Americans that are Christian, practicing or not, is 79.8%, according to the 2000 U.S. Census. So that statistic is likely fairly accurate, just based on common sense and odds.

First of all just because you have seen the "statistic" of 75% doesn't mean it is a fact. Does it also take into account the number that are converted to christianity while in prison ? I have read that those inmates that are converted to christianity have substantialy lower return rate.

LOL. I love it. If it posts something that honestly shows xians in a bad light (which should be no surprise) -- it's an anti-xian website.

what a hoot.

you accept the idea that man was created with dirt. woman was created with a rib. dirt-man and rib-woman -- it's all cool with you, no proof needed....

......but, you have to have proof of a very believable statistic, or it's just anti-xian rhetoric?

YIKES!!!
