As of yesterday he won't climb stairs or sit down, he's just been laying in the basement. He doesn't limp at all when he walks so I don't think he's hurt his legs and he's eating fine and doesn't appear to be sick. I tried to pick him up, lifting from behind his front legs (he's a black lab) and he whined, could he have a broken rib? Only answer if you have an idea of what might be wrong, don't just tell me to take him to the vet please.

I said to not tell me to take him to the vet because I didn't want like 20 ppl just answering "take him to the vet" I just posted this question to see if anyone had had a similar experience with their dog so I might have some idea as to what is going on before I take him to the vet.

Well, I hate to tell you this, but the people here are not vets and can only guess as to what might be wrong with your dog.

Without having an X-Ray, and physical examination by a licensed veterinarian, no one can be sure or give you an exact diagnosis, so like the others, I'm gong to have to tell your that your dog needs to go to the vet.

If money is a problem, which I suspect it is, you can apply for Care Credit since almost all vets will do this and let you make payments without interest

I realize that this is the answer you didn't want to read, but unfortunately, it's the only option for your dog. Any diagnosis will only be guesses. Your dog could have anything from a cracked or fractured rib or other bone, to something internal.

Please do the right thing for your dog and and at the very least. call your vet. You will then be getting an educated response.

Why aren't we allowed to tell you to go to the vets? They're the only people who can tell you what's wrong, we can't!

Here is the list of most likely problems, from what you've said:
+ broken leg
+ joint or muscle pain
+ spinal problems
+ impacted anal glands

I think a broken rib is fairly unlikely unless he's been knocked by a car or something - what makes you think this might be te case? Broken ribs usually result from some pretty major trauma and often come with secondary problems like a punctured lung.

Sorry, but the dog needs to go the vets!

yes, he could possibly have a broken rib...he might also be having problems with chest muscles, heart, lungs, etc. And you're gonna have to take him to the vet. My puppy just got out of the hospital because what was just vomiting turned into something that could have been fatal if I hadn't taken him to the vet. So, whether you want to hear it or not, he needs to go get checked out.

Sweetie.. you have to take him to the vet. It could be a number of things, all that will require vet attention anyways. He can have an infection who knows.... A Vet would :)

I'm sorry, but the responsible thing to do would be to take him to the vet. Or, at least call and talk to one!

Did you happen to see him fall or hurt himself on anything? Has he had access to anything he shouldn't be eating? I know you don't want to hear it but seriously you know you need to take him in to be checked out cause something is clearly not ok.
