It was a traffic ticket, right?
Traffic offenses in most states are never removed from your Motor Vehicle record.
Hey, I really doubt any employer cares about a 20 year old traffic ticket that is a civil infraction and not a criminal offense.

Although you were convicted, there will be an old record somewhere, BUT no insurance is a motoring offence and not a criminal offence, so most companies will only need to know if you have any current or recent motoring convictions.
Check exactly what they are asking for beofre you answer, you may not need to declare this one. OR
Get a print of your record, it costs £10 paid at your local police station and will show anything that has been recorded as a conviction

Most places traffic offenses stay on the record. A normal background check does not show this type of stuff. A clearance letter from your local police will not show this type of conviction since it was traffic.
If the question is asked on an application it usually says "other than traffic offenses". I know that is how it is in most police departments and all federal jobs.

There is a statute of limitations that apply to such an offence. You would not normally be expected to divulge your particular "crime"
It does however depend on the post for which you are applying. Failure to disclose even minor offences where convicted could in itself be an offence.
You could of course contact your local police and ask them. I think you will find that it will no longer be on file and you can ignore it.

I doubt it will, but I would declare it for 2 reasons
1] If it does show, you will definitely not get the job as by not declaring it you proved to be dishonest
2] No company would hold a 20 year old non serious offence against you, but they will admire your honesty [win-win]

Yes it will although the offence is spent.
Any body with an ounce of common sense will ignore the fact unless you have committed other motoring offences since that period and only the police, DVLA and yourself would know about that.

I am not sure. I think CRB checks only do the last 5 years but i suppose it depends on the level of check as i'm sure some must go right bcak to all police history?

Nope... under the "Rehabilitation of offender act" you dont even have to say anything about it..!! ... its classed as a "Spent" offense ..( Only crimes against the person have to be disclosed )
Good luck with the new job...
