Stick to your beliefs. You did the right thing. No one can tell you or impose on your their thoughts on who you should have in your home, especially a known drug user. They have to live with it.

Let's get this straight now.
You didn't invite a known drug user to your family party because you didn't want him around a bunch of children.
You even spoke with his Mom about not inviting him and she understood and was ok with it.
And now you feel guilty?
Sweetheart - Inviting a known user into your house is the same as locking a starving fox in with your chickens. There's no need to feel guilty for keeping your kids away from this man.
Now when he shows you 5 yeas of sobriety - then by all means invite him to a party - but not while he's actively using.

No you were not wrong, especially if your children were around. I grew up around drug addicts and I know firsthand that children are a lot smarter than grown ups think they are. If I were you I wouldn't have wanted him around either. He could've stole from you or something. How could you have enjoyed yourself knowing that an addict is in your home? The answer is simple, you wouldn't have.
I think you did the right thing. Hon you wouldn't be human if you didn't feel bad about not being able to invite a family member.
Answer my question.

I don't feel it was wrong. I had the same scenario only with an alcoholic. I made sure people knew in advance who was not coming and why. It isn't something to feel bad about, you have children and there were other children there as well. You should be proud if anything.

You did the right thing by not inviting him. If your aunt and uncle have a problem with it, then they can throw their own party in their own house and invite him and his druggie friends.

I dont think that it is wrong not to invite your cousin because he would be a terrible influence on the younger kids.

Way to go!!! Don't let it bother you, you covered your butt. Anyway, look at it this way, maybe you showed your cousin what he's missing out on by doing drugs. You are setting a good example for him!!!

you did the right thing... you put your family first..why have him/her around and then something goes missing... drug user or not you should always feel comfortable in your own house...maybe you can try talking to your aunt and uncle again and letting them know why.. remember its their child and whatever he/she does its gonna hurt them... they know the truth and have to deal with it everyday...

As long as he didnt come to your house high or had drugs on him...I would have invited him and that would have been that.
