It is actually best to put the lotion on immediately before tanning. (most of the bottles say that) What you should do is put regular lotion on very liberally an hour or so before you are going tanning. Then right before you leave your house put the tanning lotion on. When you arrive at the salon quickly put more on the places that you want to be darker. For me it'd be my face, chest and arms. The regular lotion will stop your skin from absorbing the tanning lotion so quickly so that it remains on the surface of your skin while you travel there. The more hydrated your skin is the quicker your skin will tan. So make sure you are lotioning it often. Glob it on before you go to bed at night that way you might not even need to use the tanning lotion!

Use a sunless tanning lotion so you don't have to expose your skin to harmful UV rays. This is probably not the answer you want to heart but it is the truth.

yes, as long as it`s specially formulated for tanning bed use, because they don`t allow regular tanning lotions (these contain ingredients that damage the acrylic of the bed)...moisturized skin tans better & keeps color longer...dry skin actually reflects the uv rays, resulting in less color...
