I know we are all on the right path with electric cars and bio fuels and stuff like that. But is this all just wishful thinking.

Well if there is any natural reason for global warming then may be we can't stop that, but i think we do have the power to stop what we do that causes global warming, but it a matter of lots of time and money but one day i think we would be able to stop it one day, but new problems may arise from bio fuels and electric cars

That is THE key question, and the most ignored subject.
The answer is NO. A multibillionaire thought it would be as easy to solve as the Ozone Layer Hole on Antarctica. Now, he knows better.
The problem is that CO2 cannot be neutralized or buried. Some have suggested gigantic fans to bring the air down and remove the CO2 in it. The power required would actually produce much more CO2 than the CO2 removed.

Think of all CO2 Emissions as forming a blanket that keeps the Earth warm, and soon, make it hot, end even very HOT!
Clearly, we must stop making the blanket thicker and thicker.

First, oil consumption must go down to near zero, we can either increase gasoline taxes or give the money to OPEC, the Arab cartel that sets, and increases, the price of oil for the world. Of course, they will increase oil prices.
Second, we must stop burning trees and even pay other countries to stop burning their Rainforest.
Third, our farmers should stop using farming techniques that produce CO2. Estimates are huge as to the benefit from replacing fertilizers with mulching.
Fourth, this is the hardest, stop using gasoline and coal and use renewable energy sources. California leads the field on that and has not build a large electric powerplant for years. The U.S., China and India plan to build 850 coal powerplants presently.

This last point brings up the most important one, we must have an expensive re-training plan for coal miners and all those affected by the changes.

God what a bunch of mis-informed people on here. No we cannot stop global warming because we are not the cause of it. Do you understand that? We are not the cause of global warming. Global warming is a natural phenomenon that has been going on for thousands and thousands of years. So you say that a lot of scientists think we are? Then why is there disagreement within the scientific community? That's right. There are just as many scientists that say we are not causing it, but you wont hear that in the media. Why? Because it isn't politically correct. Thats just like saying that all the bombs together can blow up the earth. If you believe that then you are ignorant. Mother nature is not fragile like some extreme environmentalists would have you believe. She is very resourceful and will be here long after we disappear.

We may be able to turn it around over a long time. As it is
we have a few who would rather bad mouth the scientist and
second guess there findings than to admit that they don't know
everything there is to know about everything. Planting trees any
where we can would be a big help. Pecans, hickory and
walnuts will soak up lots of carbon monoxide and in return give
us oxygen plus food. Million year old ice is melting and has
been for some time now. I think it will take longer to stop it.
Whether we can undo the damage that has been done remains to be seen.

We have the responsability to stop it. There are technologies being developed to reduce the gases causing global warming. It is expensive technology, but it is there. Our main problem is really willingness. The countries that contribute the most to global warming are the least involved in investing in reduction. Therefore, the rest of humanity will pay dearly because many are ignorant of the problem, or do not believe it is so dangerous, others do not care, or are not willing to invest their valued money.

yes, man has nothing to do with global warming. Currently we are spending $5 billion a year in research and not a single scientist has found any proof. Then oddly enough it turns out that Mars is suffering from global warming. Oddly enough there are no cars there...

We have all the technology we need to reduce human greenhouse gas emissions enough to get global warming under control. The problem is that too many individuals (particularly Americans) aren't willing to take the necessary actions. That leaves it up to governments to require people to take those actions by requiring more fuel efficient cars, putting a price on carbon emissions, requiring better energy efficiency, requiring more renewable energy, etc. etc. Unfortunately, politicians are doing a poor job of enacting environmental legislation. It's up to individuals to demand that their government representatives accomplish this.

To answer your question, we have the power to stop (or at least sufficiently slow) global warming, but we lack the will to do it. At least at the moment, but hopefully that will change in the near future before it's too late.

That is a great question, I do not think anybody really knows if it can be reversed. There are plenty of things we can do (and are doing) to cut back greenhouse gas emissions, but whether that will reverse or even slow down the trend is not known. The warming trend might be chiefly due to natural causes which probably cannot be altered. All I can suggest is to try to do your part to reduce emissions and to remain positive.

The only way we do is if we're the proximate cause, that has yet to be established after 20 years and tens of billions of dollars spent trying, it's not a matter of whether "we have the power to stop global warming" but of whether YOU have the power to limit other people's free, productive activity, you don't, you have no basis for getting it, so.......

piss off!

Global warming is caused by a number of factors. One of the factors, greenhouse gases such as CO2 and methane gas from human activities we do have control over. Other factors such as variations in the output of the sun we have no control over.

Unfortnately the amount of Global warming caused by greenhouse gases emitted by human activity is a relatively small contributor compared with the other causes of Global Warming.

We can eliminate the emission of greenhouse gases caused by human activity, but only at great cost, on the order of Trillions of dollars in losses from our economy. That would result in massive job losses, and huge pay cuts for workers who still had jobs, and the effect on Global Warming would be very small. Millions of people in the United States and in the rest of the world would not longer be able to pay their rent or their mortgages and they would lose their homes. Our economy in the United States and the rest of the world would be destroyed and we would be living in conditions like those of the world wide depression of the 1930's.

In short, we have some control over Global Warming, but only at great cost to all of us. The meager benefits are not worth the enormous costs.
