check out https://naturalginesis.com/index.htm . their site has all sorts of solutions for pests, including fleas. i have used their all natural products for head lice and for fleas and they work very well. their main product you can buy and dilute as a shampoo for your dog, a spray for the dog, or furniture (i.e. couches, rugs, etc where fleas have taken up residence). when they were real bad, i sprayed the solution directly on my dogs to keep the fleas under control, and i could watch the fleas come up out of their fur and die almost instantly, because this stuff breaks down their hard outer shell. it basically disintegrates them. you can also put the product in a sprayer if you wish to control outside your residence. if you go to their site they have very detailed directions and suggestions on exactly what to do to get rid of the fleas. and best of all, its all natural.

What do you mean by 'those flea treatments' exactly? If you got ones from a pet shop, they're not going to work.
If you use natural ingredients then sure, this will be safe for your kids but you will still have fleas in your house.
Go to your vets for a proper treatment. Frontline is both effective and safe, it will not harm your children as long as you can stop them from licking the dog! You can also buy a safe house spray there. Once you have got rid of this current infestation, you can use Frontline Plus spot-on every 6 weeks on your dog and this will get keep fleas off both him and the environment.
If 'natural' products worked, there would be no point in flea treatments existing. People have suggested some things on here that might kill a flea or two if you're lucky - but fleas have complicated lifecycles that you need to break or you'll never be flea-free. Lemon juice, paraffin, Dawn dish soap, garlic - these things do not break the flea life cycle. You already know you need to treat both your dog and the house - go to your vets for some proper stuff. You won't need to take your dog with you.

Another thing to try is to put soapy water in small dishes and sit them under a light. The fleas jump into the water and die.
My mom did this after her dog got them.

sergeant's
natures guardian (green package)
it is made with natural ingredients.
it has a distict smell though.
you can get it at walmart or petsmart/petco
smell it before you buy it though
the house spray works well as does the medication you squeeze on the pets back
good luck
