The offline mails have, if you need it, obviously, offline storage. That is, if you're not online all the time, you can still diddle with your emails and your contacts without having to connect.

Outlook has Mail Merge. You can (easily!) ship off a copy of your Contacts to a Word document to make mailing labels, form letters, etc. Outlook also lets you categorize a bunch of contacts so's you can look at them in various "Views" customizable in various and sundry ways.

Thunderbird has all the various customizations available from the Mozilla website. Most notable is Lightning, one heckuva calendar application. Thunderbird is also very fast and user-friendly.

Still, I tend to use online email...except when I need to use Outlook Mail Merge (I use Google Calendar for my calendaring...)

Hotmail and Yahoo! are mail providers - they provide you with an email address.

Mozilla thunderbird is an email client, which you can use to access your emails (if your mail provider allows, that is - yahoo does not allow pop3/imap access to several of its users).

Thunderbird is comparatively securer and stabler than other products out there. And, there are several enhancements available for it.

Hey Matty, First, check to see if you have Virus protection. Please do NOT get into any of those groups before you have it. Tooooo many viruses can kill your computer. I just started playing around with different websites and learned which were good for me. There are clubs (no chg) that you can join and many have discussion groups. Just have patience and have fun with your new 'toy'.
