Doctor said some tumors were dark and others light. What does that mean? They (the tumors) are located on the spine, dark ones. The light ones are located on the base of the brain.

Generally has to do with blood flow/density. More blood, darker color. More dense, darker color.
Also has to do with what type of cells have matasticized.
Treatment is effected by the density some.

Light or dark can be either benign or malignant. New treatments have been remarkably effective in treating most cancers recently.

Color is more indicative of the tissue from which the tumor originated one, and it really has nothing to do with whether it is malignant and benign. The difference between malignant tumors is that they tend to have different genetic mutations and are capable of largely unlimited growth so they can spread elsewhere throughout the body, whereas benign tumors tend to be encapsulated and less able to move around to other parts of the body, again as a result of their specific genetic mutations.

Color does mean much regarding tumors.

you would need to ask your doctor what he meant, I have no idea what he was trying to say. As far as I know there are no specific colors for tumors.
