Isaiah 7:14 -

"Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel."

I dont ever recall Jesus being named Immanuel. I dont recall Jesus ever being referred to as Immanuel. Im aware of the fact that "Immanuel" in Hebrew means "God with us" - but again, I do not recall Jesus being named "God with us" or being referred to as such....

That being the case, how can you say that Jesus is the Messiah, when he failed to fulfill this and several other prophecies??

For all those "god with us" answers - even if Immanuel is a title, it is never used at all in the NT except for one verse in one gospel which quotes Isaiah. That same verse is the only verse in the entire bible which contains the phrase "god with us".

It was not meant as a title, it was meant as a name. Names in Hebrew had meaning and Immanuel is no exception. For that matter, Jesus is the Greek form of Joshua, which means "the lord saves".

In any case, name or title, according to the bible, no one ever refers to Jesus as Immanuel or "god with us" during his lifetime.

Jesus fulfilled ALL prophecies pertaining to HIS first advent to earth!!! And the name Immanuel is no different! It was just a way back then of refering to Him. Here, read the below link and you'll understand the difference between referal names or titles and an actual name that way given to the Messiah!!!

It's 'young woman' (al-mah) not 'virgin' (betulah). The words are different and many Christian bibles use this translation. The passage only makes sense if the woman spoken of was present and that she was already pregnant. We have plenty of names similar to 'G-d is with us' in Torah and Tanakh as well as instructions re naming. In this case, it's a sign that King Ahaz still has divine protection and that the siege his kingdom is under will end by the time the unborn kid comes of age.

Isaiah is using a young woman's pregnancy to illustrate a point and reassure the king. Christianity has turned it into an Apocalyptic soap opera.

If the Jewish human beings had understood the prophecies of Isaiah, they might have understood that Messiah got here first a million) to pay the fee for guy's sins (by skill of demise on the go, it truly is the curse of putting on a tree), this had to be performed by skill of a guy, and by skill of a spotless guy, typified in the Levitical sacrifices by skill of the spotless lamb. THEN 2) Messiah might rule and reign with appropriate righteousness. on account that Israel rejected Christ simply by fact the Messiah, the Gentile era is now in result. whilst Jesus Christ returns the 2nd time, all those prophecies will actually be fulfilled. you will possibly analyze the previous few chapters of the e book of Revelation with the prophecies of Ezekiel, Zechariah, and Isaiah.

Matthew is clear that Jesus did fulfill the prophesy.

"All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us." (Matthew 1:22-23)

Immanuel does mean God with us. Jesus is God and therefor is called God with us. It is the same as saying that someones name will be called great. Great is a description of what that person will be.

Matthew 1

20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, [e] because he will save his people from their sins."

22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 "The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" [f] (which means "God with us").

Jesus fulfilled all prophecies, except His return.

Are you ready for His return?

He did fulfill the prophecy the day he was born. Are you saying your having a hard time with this because his name is Jesus and not Immanuel?Surely not. When Jesus walked this earth God was with us,but just like today there are people out there who want to banish,or destroy him even though all he wants to do is love us,and spend eternity with us.If you give some honest thought. He's not asking that much from us.

He was referred to as Immanuel, but his name was actually Jesus. E.g. George Bush is referred to as the President, but his name is actually George Walker Bush.

i guess you're right. they named Him Jesus. He could have made them name Him Jesus if He had wanted but i don't think He did a lot of miracles from the manger where He lay. that would have been a good story. i guess now the Bible is just another book i can use to fix the broken leg on my coffee table. hey, um, why do you spend time reading the Bible when you're clearly not a believer? you should follow in my footsteps. you'll at least get some spirituality out of the experience. you need something to fill that vacuum that is your soul. why don't you go camping with me this weekend?
