I've learned about the basic beliefs of it. No, I'm not impressed by it. It's totally illogical. Seriously, what kind of book says "spread faith by the sword" and then later says be peaceful? The word "islam" means "to submit." What kind of faith is this?

I have read the histories of several major religions including Islam. I figure if you are going to try and understand people it's best to know where they are coming from. I basically see Islam as an extension of Christianity. Both are monotheistic, have similar moral codes imposed on their followers and share a common history (with some exceptions). I am a Pantheist, if you have never heard of Pantheism I don't blame you, it's not very well known. While Islam and Pantheism have almost nothing in common, the one thing we do agree upon is that there is a higher power in the universe and people will always try and understand its nature. You call this power Allah I call it existence. We believe that God (or Allah for you) is everything, from the dirt under our feet to a bird in a tree, everything including ourselves is a part of God because for us God is existence itself. Our biggest differences between our two ways of thought is that Pantheism has no moral code. Morality is ultimately a human concept, something that exists inside our brains. We do not believe we are any more special than anything else that exists in this universe because we are a part of the universe. Everything you see and touch is made of the same fundamental energy and we are a part of that. Moral codes, right and wrong, these are all human inventions. Morality helps civilizations to flourish and people to get along, it is not something "handed down" to us from a superior being. That being said I understand that other people will think differently. What's important is that if you believe that your religion helps you in your daily life then stick with it! Islam is like any other religion, it can do wonderful things for people, but in the wrong hands can cause utter destruction as well. It's like comparing Mohammad Ali the boxer and Osama Bin Laden. One uses his religion as a peaceful tool while the other uses it as an excuse to kill people. Thanks for listening.

Sorry, I have done a little research into Islam and I'd have to say I don't buy it either. The mainstream followers of Islam don't follow what is written in the Koran. I believe that the Koran takes a very militant look religion. I also believe that there is no possible way to earn your way into heaven. Our sins far exceed our good deeds. We can only have faith in forgiveness.

I learned about it in order to teach a class on the subject, and was definitely impressed and had a lot of my stereotypes challenged. I was most impressed by Sufism's view of God as being all that really exists; Muhammad's emphasis on social justice in his time; and the Qur'an's explicit statements that violence should only be for self defence, and making room for acceptance of other religious traditions by introducing the category of "people of the book".

I studied it for two years.
And while there are things within it that I admire, there are other things that I could never accept as coming from God.
In the end I could not renounce the divinity of Jesus or accept that Muhammad was a true Prophet.
But I have respect for the moderate Muslim people and hope that the Radicals do not ruin the Religion.
Good Luck!
Peace!

I took 3 years of Latin in intense college and 2 years of Spanish in college with the aid of fact they did not grant Latin. I remember somewhat little of those 2. i've got been attempting for years to examine Gaelic, without good fortune. i think of i could desire to hearken to the words spoken as a manner to capture on, as there are maximum of variations that have shown impossible for me to examine. perhaps i'm going to purpose Rosetta Stone sometime; a minimum of, i think of that's what the language software is noted as. I save deleting their digital mail classified ads. perhaps next time, i'm going to save it.

Muslims are islam... they believe that the quaran came from their so-called god allah... that there is only one quaran... that there is only one islam...that the quaran is islam and islam is the quaran.
The quaran clearly states that All who do not submit to the law of the quaran and islam are to be killed... what dose this make ALL who follow the law of the quaran and islam, relative to the rest of the human population of the Earth... can you say... enemies
There is no such thing as a "moderate" muslim... there is only one islam and there is only one kind of muslim... by the quaran...

Clearly I had received the truth from God before reading the Qu'ran.
The true word of God passed down to Moses does say a prophet of God must be in agreement with the prophets and his word.
The Qu'ran does not agree with the God that was before Muhammad and yet claims to be the God of Abraham.
The true word of God does say that a prophet of God can not merely bear witness of himself but must be revealed by God or his prophets.
Muhammad is not in agreement with God and does not agree with the prophets of God and was not revealed by God but bears witness only of himself. The God of Abraham teaches this man is not a prophet of God but a liar.
Allah says he is the God of Abraham and the book is his word.
The Qu'ran is not in agreement with the God of Abraham nor his word nor his prophets.
I am not impressed.
