I am not, but I wish I were. Ever since I've started paying attention, I have noticed that many Christians, especially Catholics always seem to do the right thing when it comes to moral decisions. This fact was a real shock to me when I noticed that many Catholic girls will choose to do good and right EVEN WHEN there is a HUGE physical urge to do otherwise. This can only be the result of some very heavy-duty brainwashing.

I also notice that one the other side, most Atheists and non-religious people regularly give in to their physical urges, even when a logical thinking person can see the negative effects of such actions. They have two slogans that I have heard. One is, "If it feels good, do it." The other is, "It's not wrong if you don't get caught."

My conclusion it is clear to me that the belief that there is an all powerful all knowing God that you will one day have to answer to is a good thing for mankind.

Are you Brainwashed? Can you now see that it is a good thing?

Sunna,
That is just nieve. There are many bad people out there that will do what ever they think they can get away with. If they were God-fearing, that wouldn't happen as much.

I have had some stinking thinking that was washed away by the Word of God.

1. No I am not brainwashed, or spoon fed, or lacking the ability for free thinking.

2. Common self control is not really a sign of a brainwashed christian who is fearing the so called jealous and vengeful God - for example, last spring break the Southern Baptist Church youth group went to Disney World - three girls came back pregnant and the daddy of two of the babies is the same guy!

3. I know extremely moral and conscientious atheists; they respect my views and I respect theirs. I don't think that they are necessarily correct in most of their ideas, but I also don't believe that the creator wants us burning candles, invading non-christian countries to try to "convert" non-believers, or will send us to a burning pit of everlasting torture. That crap was started during the Middle Ages when the Catholic Church was a more governmental political body and needed to expand its financial power base.

4. Last of all being "brainwashed" isn't necessarily a good thing. Take a good long look at the College Republicans. There you go. Case closed.

brainwashing isn't the reason why people have self-respect and respect for each other. Without God, people can choose to do what is best for them or for their families and friends. Moral people are ones who decide what is the best course of action for many other reasons other than "answering to an All-knowing God"

Note: People CAN choose to do what is right for themselves and others despite God; People don't always choose to though, for whatever reasons. You can't be so simplistic as to think only people who answer to God are going to be moral. I know personally Atheists who are pro-life and givers in their community. I also know Christians who choose to be self-centered. My experience. I am not generalizing, because people are people with the will to choose their course of action, that is all. If brainwashing is the only reason why a person is doing the right thing, well then, they just aren't using their brain.

I am not brainwashed. I chose to be a Christian of my own free will. I am highly educated and have the ability to think logically and analytically. I also have the ability to control myself as necessary. Self-control is NOT tantamount to brainwashing. Sounds like you're just bitter about being rejected by a Catholic girl!

Yes and No. I know that I will one day have to answer for my actions, and that controls me, but only to an extent. There are physical urges that I give into on a regular basis. I think it's pretty normal for Christians (especially myself) and other religious people to have this dichotomy between beliefs and actions.

You are not referring to brainwashing but to habits. Yes, it is easier to do the right thing when it is a habit that one has formed, and often our habits were formed in childhood before we were free to make our own decisions. No, I don't think being brainwashed in the classic sense of being indoctrinated so that one cannot think for oneself is a good thing, no matter what sort of doctrine the brain has been washed with.

I'd rather feed my spiritual needs than my physical needs.

"What shall it profit a man to gain the whole and lose his own soul"? Or, what shall man give in exchange for his soul?" (Mark 8:36,37).

It is foolish to give so much care and attention to the body and neglect the soul. When we give ourshelves to the "enjoyment of life"(be it pursuit of wealth, pleasure and entertainment) to the utter neglect of our spiritual well-being, then we have become unwise.

Not saying...that you should totally forget about those stuffs...but then again everyone must know that there are limits.

It so happens that once I believe in Jesus, my thinking has changed for the better. And yes, I don't belong to any Church. So no one brainwashed me. I would prefer to say Jesus enlightened me.

I'm not brainwashed, I'm not a religious person but I'm not an atheist either. I'm me.

I have my principles and I try to follow the rules as much as I can.
I'm not saying I'm the paragon of virtue.. I have my flaws but one thing I can say about myself : I try not to offend anyone on purpose and try to help when I can.

The WORST sin has nothing to do with sex. The worst sin is to hurt others (including animals and nature) in ANY way and not to help when you have the means and the opportunity to do so.

"Love thy neighbor" is my commandment. And that one includes ALL the rest.

I don't consider myself to be brainwashed...but I do always try to the right thing because I know that the Lord is watching me and I want him to say that I was a good servant to him when I go to Heaven.

And at what point do you think it becomes a bad thing to be brainwashed? Is it before or after your preacher tells you to take rights away from people that are different from you?

Is it before or after they put a gun in your hand and tell you to fight and/or die for your "god"?

How about when your preacher offers you the secret kool-aid? Would you start thinking for yourself before or after the poison kicks in?

No, I don't see how brainwashing is a good thing.

As an aside, the Mormons have pretty good family values and such, that they get from being brainwashed by their con man. Do you think that's pretty healthy, also?
