Use a redskin potato, it will not take as long in the microwave.
I would say about 5-7 minutes on the jacket. But make sure you poke holes in it, because your overall time is gonna depend on the size of the potato.

It depends on the size of the potato. Always prick it with a fork several times or it will explode in the microwave and you'll have a mess. Average potato takes around 4min, large could take 8min or so, it depends on the wattage strength of your microwave. Also everything cooked in a microwave takes about 1/3 the time of an oven or less. For instance if you cook a ham in the microwave it will take 20min but would be 60 in the oven, this goes for everything. If the potato shrivels then you've overcooked it.

About 6 minutes for a medium to large potato. If you rub it with sea salt before you wrap it in a dampened paper towel, it will be very tasty. (The dampened paper towel keeps the potato moist and retains the pieces because I've found that every once in a great while they like to blow up!)

pierce it with a fork 3-4 times
Start with about 4 minutes. You can check it for doneness by again piercing it with the fork. It should pass smoothly when the potato gets done.
