In Europe and America, there's a growing feeling of hysteria
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets
Mr. Krushchev said we will bury you
I don't subscribe to this point of view
It would be such an ignorant thing to do
If the Russian love their children too
How can I save my little boy from Oppenheimer's deadly toy
There is no monopoly of common sense
On either side of the political fence
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too
There is no historical precedent
To put words in the mouth of the president
There's no such thing as a winnable war
It's a lie we don't believe anymore
Mr. Reagan says we will protect you
I don't subscribe to this point of view
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
What might save us me and you
Is that the Russians love their children too

As a prior Weapons Tech in the Navy, I can tell you that there won't be any large scale weapons used against China so Grendle's theories on the whole "Kill the Earth" thing aren't quite the factor of worry. Tactical Nukes (small enough for precise targeting = less civilian damage) would be the more likely option, and I can tell you that it's likely THEY wouldn't be used, either.
The hypocrisy of the US using nuclear weapons in a world where we're trying to help disarm Korea and Iran of the very same weapons systems is completely absurd. Regardless what the media wants you to believe, just because we have the capability doesn't mean we're going to use them.
They're not likely to use them, either. Though they have very different philosophies, it would be VERY detrimental to their country (and their economy). The UN is a bunch of pansies, but they don't have much tolerance for those types of actions. You can kill your OWN people, but not others.
I would worry a little less about China and a little more about Iran. President I'm-a-freaking-knob in Iran is a radical extremist who's far more dangerous (at the moment).

The use of mega-bombs (fission or fusion) would result in global catastrophe. Since the US is generally "downwind" of China (thanks to the Earth's unhealthy clockwise rotation), the fallout and soot from any major bombs we unleashed on China would end up over Portland.
Leave alone the question of nuclear winter, the radiation from a large-scale exchange would probably kill most life (not just human life, mind you) on the planet.
This is why the stockpiling of nukes was called "Mutually Assured Destruction" and only worked as long as no one actually DID it.

For the heck of it?
We can't bomb china. For what reason?
I really can't stand what they do, both to themselves and to others. We would be doing their leaders a favor the way they treat their population.
There is no china, other than in the minds of the bureaucracy and party leadership. Ans: none.

You have enough to destroy every city on earth but by the time they get there you can be sure that their ICBMs are in the air and will be on you soon enough. Mutual destruction has been the policy ever since the cold war began.
