Okay the wedding will be local, its not a destination wedding, its WAS for this December i told everyone verbally, but now we had to push the date :( to Feb 2008. i still have 9 months, but i want everyone to know its no longer for december, do you think i should wait till the 6 month mark or go ahead and send them out?

as soon as you have a date firmly selected! the actual invitations go out no sooner than 2 months before the wedding. Congratulations!!

The general rule of thumb is 6-12 months. If you are having a destination wedding, you need to send them sooner. If most of your guests only have to travel shorter distances, you can put it off a little. With 9 months to go, it would be acceptable to send out the Save The Date cards now.

Depending on the type of wedding you are having, anywhere between 1 year and 8 months is appropriate for Save the Date cards. If you are having a destination wedding where people will need to save money and plan far in advance, I would recommend closer to the 1 year mark.

If your family is all local to where you are getting married, the STD cards aren't necessary. These are only done for out of town guests or for people like me who are having a destination wedding. Don't spend the money if you don't have to. With that said, I think anywhere from 6-8 months is good, that is when I am planning on doing mine.

Save the Dates are for out of town guests and should be sent 6 months before the wedding. People who live in the same city don't need such advance notice, so an invitation is fine (mailed 6 weeks prior).

Instead of save the dates, we just called and emailed our out of town guests with dates and directed them to our wedding website which had hotel information.

You should send save the dates 6 months prior to the wedding...normally this is reserved for destination weddings. I think you should just opt to send out invitations 6 weeks prior to the wedding.

Since you said it's not a destination wedding, six months is appropriate. If there are friends and family members that you know will have to travel, it would be fine to send it earlier, now that you have the date finalized. It gives them that much extra time to arrange any travel plans and start airfare shopping. When one of my best friends got married, she sent travel packets to all her friends and family who she knew would have to fly out to attend; they included the standard save the date card, along with maps of the area, brochures of fun things to do nearby, hotels close to the wedding location, and she was nice enough to call the hotels and wrangle deals since she knew there would be quite a few people coming in from out of town.

I got one with last years Christmas card for this October. So I would send it when you feel comfortable doing so. Plus, I just marked the date on the calender anyway, so I won't even see it until that month when I change the page- or when I get the invite, whichever comes first! But send it now, if you have them ready

It's never a bad idea to let people know early. You can always send out a reminder later. Being too late can be a problem.

You're getting married in 9months?! Wow send them out immediately!! But only to distant relatives and ppl you cant just tell outright. My cousin's getting married in July and sent out save the date cards to ppl that lived on hr block it seemed a bit silly! But yeah definately now
