I am about to get insurance for my car and want to get legal protection included. The company I am about to purchase it from have said that it only covers accidents that are NOT my fault. Is this standard for all companies or am I being conned? Thanks

Legal Protection Insurance AKA Uninsured Loss Recovery Insurance covers you should you incur any legal costs in pursuing a claim against another driver who is at fault (total or partial) for an accident. Most companies who operate this scheme do most of the claim themselves but if they have to resort to the legal system then your costs are covered. Recently the government required all companies who do this sort of thing to be registered. Legal expenses may be sold seperately or may be an 'add-on' on your insurance policy.

If you have an accident that is your fault then you will be claimed against by the other driver and his insurance company. If your insurance company decide to fight the case then they stand the costs themselves - so you have nothing to worry about. This is part of a standard insurance policy.

Unless you are mad enough to insure through easy group you will not have to pay anything should you have to make a claim to protect you against another person taklng legal action against you after an accident.

Hope this clarifies matters - Legal Expenses Insurance is a sword enabling you to go after negligent third parties - your insurance policy is a shield protecting you against them.

You are not being conned. The policy referred to is an Uninsured Loss Recovery/Legal Expenses policy and is designed to assist in the recovery of uninsured losses following an accident which isn't your fault. Such losses might include:-

* policy excess
* loss of earnings
* car hire (where not provided under your insurance)

Such a policy can only operate where there is a reasonable chance of a recovery from the responsible third party insurer. A classic example is someone driving into the back of you - clearly not your fault.

If however your car is hit whilst parked by an unknown third party who then drives off, there is no chance of a recovery and the ULR policy therefore cannot operate.

Most insurers/brokers offer this service in todays litigious society and it costs between £15 and £30, providing cover anywhere from £25,000 to £100,000 per incident.

You are being conned. Try a quote from a reputable chain, (GEICO, Allstate, etc.) Insurance covers you whether it's your fault, the other driver's fault, or if your friend was driving your car and crashed.

She could desire to declare it in any different case the insuramce agency will "discover out" approximately this incident if she needs to declare on the coverage. The insurance agency will prefer to grant a decrease quote in the certainty that they could refuse to pay out. i comprehend of a topic the place a woman had an twist of destiny not her fault, she became into charged and cleared, yet with the aid of fact the to blame party saved away from prosecution by potential of dying on the scene of the twist of destiny her boyfriend, whose automobile she became into using, not basically misplaced the no claims yet had a one hundred in step with cent further loading utilized. She had her own insurance on the time and inspite of notifying the agency her no claims became into not affected. The failiure to demonstrate will in many circumstances kick in if she needs maintenance to her own automobile, and the plod could discover out and proecute if it is the effects of an twist of destiny and that using uninsured in the united kingdom is 8 factors.

You are getting conned. I know insurance. I could get you a better deal if only you lived in the Baltimore-Washington Area. If you do live in the Baltimore-Washington Area, then notify me.

That sounds really bizarre that they ONLY cover for accidents that are NOT your fault. You might want to verify that is doesn't ALSO cover accidents that are not your fault (not only)

That sounds like they are quoting only a liability policy. If you have collision and comprehensive, you are covered for accidents you have, fault or not, unless you are drinking, on drugs, stunting, racing, or involved in criminal acts, like felony evading.
