*Yeah sure, I think that if everyone would/could compliment each other on something everyday..the world would be a better place.

.Then again sometimes people for some reason take other peoples compliments offensive? Why I don't know?
.Maybe it's because people like being given compliments from the people they know rather than from strangers.

.Either way I think that no matter who gives the compliment people should be kind and accept them, and offer one back in return.

**Have a good day :):)

Yes I always find a compliment or nice word, especially from a stranger does make my day. It reminds me that there are kind people in the world.
I also try and give kind words or words of encouragement to others, on a daily basis, because I know how it feels to receive them.

Yes,it does,....and quite often,God will bring a word of encouragement or something funny etc...just what you need....seemingly,out of the clear blue..a friend calls or e-mails,something unexpected happens that makes your day...But the point is,that though God does work in the supernatural..he most often works through his people...I think of the many opportunities that God may have set up for me to offer a compliment or to honor someone and I missed it.....

I believe that this question of yours should be taken very seriously....we could impact each other lives,greatly...one way or the other.

EDIT: I have occassionaly e-mail,even those who oppose my views, and expressed to them, strengths that I see and appreciate in them.....
By,the way, brother, thanks for the encouraging e-mail and for the other day when you honored me...What a great feeling to know that others care and pray for you...

Oh yes, it's the little things that mean the most. A smile, a hello, being told that I look nice--any of these things mean the world to me.

You are one of my favorite people here. Your questions are sincere, kind, and thought provoking. And when you let your hair down on a raid you're a blast! I'd love to have your sense of fun, I've often envied you.

Have a wonderful day.

Yes, infact, a kind word or even a smile is considered charity in Islam:

“Good deeds in Islam are to feed the poor and greet those whom you know and those whom you don’t know.” (Abdullah ibn Amr – radi’Allahu anhu – al Bukhari, Vol I, p28, No. 27)

Sadly we may not always receive a polite or favourable response. Instead, we may be looked down upon, scowled at or blatantly ignored. These ill-mannered responses may either be due to ignorance, arrogance, or shyness on the part of the sister who does not return the greeting. However, if she knew the reward for initiating the greeting or returning it, she would rush to do it. It is possible that she does not know the reward for offering salaams. In which case it is our duty to remind her, gently and tactfully. We are also recommended to smile when we greet one another, as it is a good deed highly rewarded by Allah.

“Every good deed of a Muslim is Sadaqah*, and meeting your Muslim brother with a smiling face is one of the good deeds.” (Jabir – radi’Allahu anhu – Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi)

*Sadaqah comes from Arabic, meaning charity

“Don’t consider any of the good things insignificant even if it is that you meet your brother with a cheerful countenance.” (Abu Dharr – radi’Allahu anhu – Muslim, Vol IVA, p201, No.2626)

The greeting may be repeated if an object such as a tree, a wall or a person intervenes between two sisters after which they meet again, or when one of them departs for a brief period and then returns, i.e. to retrieve something while on the phone.

“When one of you meets a brother, he should salute him. Then if a tree or a wall or a stone intervenes between them and then he meets him again, he should salute.” (Abu Hurairah – radi’Allahu anhu – Abu Dawud, Vol III, p1435, No.5181)

So start telling yourself....no seriously! What are you thankful and happy for? I bet you have a lot. I do it all the time. You have to, to survive the anxiety of life. I mean, I'm not having a gigantic conversation with myself or anything. :) But, I do try to take a moment or so every now and then and just say good job to myself or that I like something about me.

I'm serious, try it.

yes absolutely. unfortunately i am the type of person with a low self esteem that dresses up to get attention to hopefully get a compliment. so i feel good about my self that day. but unfortunately my esteem is so low it doesn't even help. but yes i like to hear kind words and i love to give kind words to people also. i make sure i do this every day.

Only if it actually improves my concept of my performance. Otherwise, it's communication of recognition. Compliments and nice words are pleasant enough, but I can't rely on getting them every day, so I take care to remind myself of my value. Mostly I just keep doing and not think about it.

Yeah, everybody needs a pat on the back sometimes, from the boss friends, family. It makes you feel appreciated, and that you did something good and others noticed.
That makes people happy
So feel free to give compliments when you feel that they are deserved, and make somebody's day
