I have a health screening every year and the past 2 yrs my "absolute lymphocytes" have been high. (4085- range shld be between 850-3900). Everything else is w/in normal range.

I took the results to my doctor last year, he redrew the CBC but didn't seem concerned. It just concerns me that I don't know exactly what "absolut lymphocytes" do or what it means.

Please explain.

"Absolute lymphocytes" just means the number of lymphocytes in one microliter of blood. A lymphocyte is one general type of white blood cell, and different types of lymphocytes have different functions in the immune system.

Lymphocytes can be elevated with viral infections, some bacterial infections, and even leukemia (but they would be very high, in that case). Some sources say that the upper limit of normal is 4000, so your value isn't extremely high. Keep in touch with your doctor and share the results from your most recent blood test, if you haven't already. Hope this helps.

The blood is self regulatory system and you happen to have 'absolute lymphocytosis' which probably means another white cell is low? It goes neutrophils, basophils, eosinphils, lymphocytes and monocytes. Add them together and you get the total white cell count, or CBC. However if one goes up, say Neutrophils, chances are the lymphocytes will go down. In your case the Lymphocytes are up, so what has gone down and what was the total white cell count? You need to know these figures before you can find the answer.
