Particularly in light of the fact that most atheists are former Christians themselves.

Wouldn't experiencing both sides of the argument make someone anything BUT closed-minded?

Anyone CAN be closed-minded. The same way Christian refuse to consider evidence against their beliefs, atheists can be guilty of the same thing.

Personally, I'm an atheist pending further discoveries/ information/ evidence.

I am a Christian that has experienced both sides of the argument, what does that make me?

Many were Christians as kids and never bothered to learn the truth about the Christian faith. I was one of them at one time, I really thought I was "enlightened" as an Atheist, much smarter than the silly people following myths. But you know what, I had never learned faith as an adult.

So after never finding happiness through sin, I did some more study, over the next 20 years I studied different faiths. I then became Catholic.

Most of the silly questions bashing Christians show very little actual knowledge of our true beliefs, those questions show a lack of knowledge, or understanding.

I know that there are Atheists that have studied Religion as well.

I just wish more would so we could at least have an intelligent discussion based on what us Christians REALLY believe instead of silly misconceptions.

And it is easy to find out, us Catholics have the Catechism of the Catholic Church, all of our beliefs are in there in print to attack or defend, no Grey area.

So, based on the questions I see, there are LOTS of closed minded Atheists.

Peace!

Every single Atheist that told me that they used to be a Christian that I have met doesn't understnd the basis for belief. Every single one that I have communicated with. Every single one that I could talk to at leangth has had a hangup about certain verses that are child's play. So whatever kind of Christian that they were, preacher or not, are indicative of the lack of knowledge that they had before becoming an Apostate. They never had the understand ing to begin with.

For example:
Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

They then say, " SEE!? God is not Jesus, he said so right there!" And the confusion continues.

Atheist is close minded because they have no Earthly way of knowing that there is not a God. They couldn't percieve him if they looked right at him. Unless! UNLESS! They can see spiritual things. And most Atheists that I have met deny spiritual things. So they dervive their understanding from what they can't see. It's lazy and unscientific.

Hello,

Fort the record I am Christian. Atheists whether you agree with their points or not are anything but closed minded. They do not just accept religious teaching and doctorine after discussing, analysing and researching, quite often for a long time. In searching for their answers they read about hundreds of other religions, cross referencing with science, history and quite often common sense.

Ultimately, if they come back to a belief the knowledge and faith is far more concrete than someone who is born into a sect or just follows a good religious leader blindly though keeoing his or her spiritual knowledge at a grade 4 level.

Closed minded is when you won't consider another persons point of view. When you make rude comments regarding someone elses point of view. I don't think ALL atheists are closed minded. It seems that many atheists think christians are stupid fluff heads and I really get tired of the whole brainwashing concept. I hate some of the unnecessary comments they post just to be rude and hateful. I think most atheists are tolerant but not open minded.

No, being atheist does no longer recommend you're closed-minded. It would not recommend you at the instant are not closed-minded the two, because of the fact the somewhat some atheists in this communicate board on occasion demonstrate. the element you're saying you made seems to me a solid one. the hassle is, this is particularly confusing to make certain the way it created any foundation for the comments you're saying your dad made. That leaves me to contemplate whether perchance he exchange into directing those comments at something else you reported, something you have no longer for sure expressed to us. of path, he could desire to as truthfully be the only no longer listening to you. however the "closed-minded and preachy" stuff reported around right here by employing atheists isn't like what you have reported your self asserting. Neither of them could desire to undergo in techniques why it had began or, certainly, what it exchange into approximately. they only knew they disagreed with one yet another. It exchange into all-out verbal conflict. that they had long previous previous the snide sniping degree; that they had long previous previous the quasi-functional degree, whilst each and every pretended to place his case coolly and logically, and could initiate with words alongside with: 'What i'm asserting is . . .', 'the element i'm making is . . .', and stop the different from speaking with the perennial: 'in case you will only enable me end . . .' that they had made precisely an analogous factors in considered one of those diverse techniques for virtually 2 hours, in the previous tiredness crept in and the argument grew to become right into a nuclear conflict. -- grant Naylor, "pink Dwarf: Infinity Welcomes careful Drivers" whilst a youthful guy who has been going to church in a ordinary way actual realises that he does no longer have confidence in Christianity and forestalls going—presented he does it for honesty’s sake and not in ordinary terms to harass his mum and dad—the spirit of Christ is probably closer to him then than it ever exchange into in the previous. -- C.S. Could an Atheist explain why they think Christians are so closed minded?

It might be from the sarcastic tone that many atheists portray when asking questions and then when they are asked for proof they say they don't need to provide it. I'm not saying all atheists are this way. There are many respectable atheists but as it is with many things, a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch.

I think it's because they're hung up on the thought that if you can't prove something doesn't exist, then you can rule out its existence. Of course this is countered with ridiculousness like Zeus, Santa and the Spaghetti Monster.

So the see atheists as close-minded due to the fact that they make an assupmtion that there is no God despite having no proof that there is no God. Of course though it is impossible to prove something does not exist, but possible to proof something does exist........which they can't seem to do with God.

Because it is impossible to be an atheist if one has examined both history and the Bible.
