my hair is turning brassy and orange and i the shampoos for well water aren't working and we don't have a softner, so i wanted to at least get a filter for the shower...

Yes, a filter that removes minerals should help as they are probably causing your hair to change color. (Some filters help reduce chlorine too if it is added to your well water.)

The trade off w/ most water softeners is that they salt which can make your hair dry & unmanageable so a filter is worth trying.

(Reverse osmosis filters do not use salt but do use a lot of water.)
