The past system.
If you have a system where everyone still has a chance with 15 races to go, then what's the point of driving the first 21?
If you want a playoff, then only invite the top 10 drivers to Homestead for the final race.
Or, if you want something gimmicky, then make the last 5 races of the year count for double points.
Not this Chase, where someone gets a big lead and then has to give up that lead just because it's Race #22 (then again, that does sound a lot like what happens in a single race when a caution flag comes out: You're still in 1st, but you don't have a 10 second lead any more.

I liked the past system better, as it seems everyone else does. To be honest, however, even with the past system, with only ten races left in the season, no driver out of the top 10 would have a legitimate shot at the championship anyway, barring a VERY odd season. I just don't like the fact that a driver's excellence during the main season is more or less terminated when the chase starts. He is forced to start over basically. While, to NASCAR, it levels the playing field a little and keeps one person from running away with the Cup, it's not really fair to the driver who IS running away with the Cup and doing what it takes TO run away with it. To me, the current system is unfair to the drivers. You could be perfect the entire season up until the chase, slip once in the chase, and lose the Cup. Until NASCAR rewards wins more than mediocre finishes, I won't like the Chase.

The Top 12 Driver I think was NASCAR caving to pressure from Stewart, Junior, and Gordon Fans since all three of these Drivers have missed the Chase since it was introduced.
If they are going to have a Chase; they should have kept it to the Top 10 (or 400 pts back) rule in place.
Had it not been for the Chase, Jeff Gordon would already be a five time Champion and would be chasing his Sixth Championship. The very first Chase season Gordon had over a 400pt lead before the field was reset.
The Chase has added excitement to the later part of the Season and got people to tune in to the final race of the Season. Every Sport has a playoff, I guess NASCAR needed one to keep People interested.

Past. I like the Idea of the chase and everything but I hate that its now 12 and everything I liked how at 10 their was some more competition and everything and you could be in the top 10 or 400 points within the leader which could be 15th or whatever. I liked that idea and the Idea of the $1 Million Dollar Bonus to 11th place. I like now that the points are reset at the Chase and anyone with a win gets 10 more bonus points. I think that needs some tweaking but its a good idea. I like how Tony Stewart also said that maybe the guys in the Chase should race on a different points system or in a different race completely so rookies don't take them out or something. I think if they did something like that their would be alot of tweaking the idea involved. I think that both have good qualities but I like the old one better because I was used to it and liked the format somewhat but the format now isnt bad just needs to be tweaked some more.

I actually like the chase... Makes the end of the season much more exciting... In the past when it got down to around 10 or so races there was only a handful of drivers that had a legitimate chance to win the cup... Now there are 12?! How could you NOT think this is better?!

I hated the chase when they brought it in, and I still hate it. A driver could be leading by 500 points and have it all taken away just for the stupid chase. All those points were hard earned and to have to give them up is a shame. But, remember, we are talking France Family here and they rule nascar as no other sport can be ruled. They cahnge the rules more times than a new baby gets a diaper changed.

PAST, it really rewards the most consistant driver. The year Kurt Busch won, he was not the best driver that year, he was just the one with the least amount of issues in the final 10.

Well, I'm used to the past and the top 10 competing in the chase. But the top 12 hasn't been tried out yet so I'm not gonna diss it until I see what happens this year. It seems to me they felt sorry for Tony Stewart not making it last year, he was 11th in points, so they upped it to 12 so people like him will be in. Idk though.

I'm going to have to wait to see how the seeding plays out this year to say for sure. I think it could be pretty interesting and turn out to be more competitive and entertaining than the past, but can't pick one until I see how this year's goes.
