My wife's 1985 Volvo's tail lights are not working well. Is this common? How do I fix them?

Every Volvo around this age seem to have burned out tail lights and issues. Is there a trick to keeping the bulbs from burning out and or shorting??? Any advice will help.

I know that volvo's are awesome cars., but all cars need
maintainace to keep them running..
here is a site that tell you how to
do normal maintance on a 1985 volvo. there are step by step pictures to help you install a new bulb. they also list the sizes and bulb numbers so you can get the correct replacements.

there is also a licence plate lite bulb number as well as the wind sheld wiper size for replacement
