He was snarling, you know popping his jaws as a threat, and that's when I took my shot," Jamison said.

In one news story it said it was either him or me...But when you are hunting your pray for three hours.. you could have left the situation.. Would you have called Wild Fish and Game.. Ranger.. Sheriff.. Someone that could document the masive thing or would you have killed it for food..For the thrill of the hunt? Here is a link to the story if you are intrested.I want to know what you would have done...Yes I am aware what harm a boar can do..but if this thing got to this size and no one els knew it was around then what harm was it really doing..I am a little upset that they did kill it.. This is the largest on record to date...Let me know your thoughts and feelings..

I don't have any thoughts on it, but I have read it. I initially thought it was a hoax, a photoshop job.

Yes ,I can believe it was this big.The article I read on the Internet was Alabama boy bags 1000 pound wild hog. He was hunting at Lost Creek Plantation,a 2500 acre reserve in Delta. I have hunted wild hogs on a 1500 acre reserve in N.C. How it works is this There is a fenced in area and smaller fence in areas where they hunt exotics. The smaller areas are so they guild knows where you should hunt according to what animal you are hunting. They let the hogs go a couple nights before. They use dogs and you are only hunting in a area that is maybe 200 acres. These hogs are raised in a barn. So yes it could have been that big if it was well feed and old Maybe a breeder they wanted to get rid of. So why not make a buck and get advertisement for their reserve. If you don't believe this look up the reserve or other hog hunts on the Internet. It was a canned hunt. I know I have hunted them. It is like taking your kid to a Brock trout fishing derby where they stock the pond the night before and put a couple of 6 lb Brook trout along with hundreds of 13" ones. (All farm raised trout) Your kid would have a story if he caught one of the big ones.

I've worked with hogs, and we had some boars that were in the 800lb range. I have no doubt hogs given the right food can get big.

Feral hogs are nasty, They ruin crops and pastures in pretty short order..

Killing for food and thrill are part of it.. The other part is keeping them from ruining things.

A boar can breed with multiple sows, and produce offspring, hogs can produce litters from 6 to 12 pigs every 6 months. If you don't keep knocking down the population it won't belong before people run into these pigs on the road and total vehicles.

If I want a good tasting hog I try to take them in the 70-200 pound range a big hog does taste pretty rancid. It'd take 3 days on a good hickory pit to mellow then meat, even then you'd still know it was huge boar.

I've seen a herd of hogs strip a 100 acres plot of corn bare. The farmer was grateful there were people willing to shoot.

It's a hog. Why not shoot it? It had to root and eat as much as a whole herd. On the other hand, it appears they're planning to eat it, and I don't want to be in the same county when they cook the thing, Old boars, even the normal 250 pounders, can stink you out of the house.
The one thing I'm curious about is this: Sows can be pretty mean, since they have to keep the boars from eating their own young. How could they even slightly influence that monster? He looks like he could have eaten a 75 pound shoat for breakfast and not even slowed down.

If they killed it for food I have no problem with that. I would definitely have called the newspaper, the game warden or someone to verify the size of the creature.

The packing house should have been able to verify the story. I certainly would not butcher a hog that size myself.

My husband and I had this same discussion. I honor the child's right to hunt and his right to do what he did. With that said, I also feel that there was a SERIOUS lack of judgement in killing a natural phenomena like this one. This animal should have been tracked, tagged, watched.....even to take it and place it in captivity would have been better than to kill it. It would have been quite an attraction for children to see or for animal specialists to study in the wild. I guess the child was hunting and found the biggest one in a streak of luck. It was all over CNN for that entire day. It just kind of made me sad that we find things that incredible and kill it anyway. (sigh)

I would have given all I've got to go bag that animal. It's an amazing creature and it's even more amazing that it lived that long without getting shot to grow to that size. That boar will probably never be topped.

Me I am a hunter. I hunt for food. There has been several times If I didnt have game in my freezer that I had killed we wouldnt have had any meat to feed our family in the past. I repect all living things, and I was raised that if I kill something I have to eat it. I dont not believe in killing for sport. I would have used it for food.

I read about it and seen pictures. I would have witnesses to it's size and weight for the Records. But, if there is only a picture, then it falls into the same category as UFO's. We can only speculate, "Yea that picture looks like a Flying Sausage"?

For those saying they would have killed it for food, feral boar is very gamy and not so tasty. It will be very tough meat to eat, I am kind of surprised they decided to butcher it. I mean the previous Hogzilla they just buried the sucker.
