It is to be remembered that the puppies rely on mother’s milk exclusively in the first three to four weeks of age. In case if you are going to wean the puppies at three weeks of age, weaning process should be adopted gradually.
Hence the puppies need to be separated from its mother from three weeks of age itself. Once your puppies attain the age of six weeks, then completely wean them. Hence it is advisable to get a puppy more than 6 weeks. But eight weeks old puppy is generally preferred by owners...

He should be at least 8 weeks old. Get directly form a breeder or someone you know. pet store usually take them from the mothers too early and the puppies for one don't get the socialization skills from mother and its siblings. Dogs in the pet store come from puppy mills which are awful.
do a google search on puppy mills if you need too see the awful conditions..In time the lawas will close these places down. Have you considered adopting a dog from the local animal shelter. My local shelter had a pregnant mother and the puppies where born at the shelter and they all got adopted after the 8 weeks. Check out the animmal shelter and save a dogs life. They know you are saving them and make good pets. Many there are young and you get a young dog without all the work and problems of raising a puppy.

Minimum 8 weeks, 10 is better. The puppy can usually be safely weaned by 6 weeks and mom will start doing this on her own, but the remaining weeks with mom and littermates are what teach the dog how to be a dog. Puppies removed from their mom's and littermates' interaction younger than 8 weeks have developmental and behavioral problems in most cases. It's like taking a 10-year-old child away from his family and leaving him alone to fend for himself in the world. He'll probably survive, but it's not good for him.
Waiting a few more weeks to get your puppy will pay dividends down the road

A minimum of eight weeks, but you should wait until 12 weeks for adoption so the puppy can get all the mother's milk. The longer the puppy feeds off the mother, the healthier it will be.

I've heard of people weaning their pups at 6 weeks - but that's really severe. 10 - 12 weeks is much better for the baby. By that time he'll have had a couple of weeks eating solid food and should be up and walking nicely.

Puppies are usually weaned at 8 weeks. Any sooner can cause health concerns with puppies.

Minimum 8, 10-12 weeks is better as they are more ready to leave and also learn proper doggie socialization skills during that extra time with mom and siblings

They have to be weened. I would say that 8 to 10 weeks would be enough time to wait before you getting the puppy.
