I know that cats are sensetive to lactose in the normal milk but I have heard that most cats drink normal milk that human drinks with no problem.

Is that true? Can I give normal full cream milk to my kitten instead of buying special kitten milk which is costly and hard to store?

It's usually not a good idea. Most cats' digestive systems can't handle the large protein molecules in cow milk.

If you want to give your cat a milk product, try cottage cheese. The process of making it breaks down the milk protein and make it digestible to cats.

If you feed your kittens dry or canned food made especially for kittens, it is fortified with the extra calcium they need to develop properly.

No. I don't know how old your kitten is. If you are feeding it with milk it must be very young. Your kitten needs special nutrients that are found in the milk formula that is specially formulated for kittens. Cats should never drink cow milk especially at a young age. In small quantities it will not hurt an adult cat, but it can give severe diahrrea even in small quantities to kittens. The diahrrea can cause severe dehydration and if the dehydration is left unchecked it could kill your kitten. In short spend the money and buy the milk formula.

No. Kittens need the special milk for the nutrients. Older cats can have milk every once in a while b/c they're also getting their regular food, which have the nutrients they need. Milk is just a treat to them.

You heard correctly- cats and kittens are mostly lactose intolerant. Cow's milk will give them diarrhea!
Give your kitten the commercial kitten milk instead.

Definately not. Cow's milk will make them sick to their stomachs. Also, it doesn't have the nutrients kitty needs to be healthy. A cat milk subsitute, maybe even goat's iilk, whould be the better choice.

My cat loves cow's milk and the vet said as long I only give a wee amount and she does not develop diarrhea, it was okay. Well, she adopted us three years ago and she is doing just fine.

You can give your kitten milk, but alot of people that I've heard and I know that you shouldn't, it's not really that good for them, even if people say it can be.
