As the report said, they believed that they were Viet Cong, they did not wear uniforms.
And before you speak poorly of soldiers in the field you should "get your *** in the grass".

Apparently you don't have a clue as to what type of warfare went on in Vietnam. The Americans were NOT "terrorists". They were following misguided orders and if you think that it only happened in My Lai, just pick a war, any war or "conflict" which is what Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and Iraq are. You'd be amazed at the atrocities. We aren't always the "good" guys.

Because you reach a point in combat where a confluence of things merge. Your best buddy has just been blown to bits by a ten year old carrying a satchel charge, a friendly little old lady sets you up for an ambush, Another ten year old, (maybe a boy this time) runs out of a hut with an AK47 blazing away - and on and on. You know you're going to die and you just don't care anymore. Then My Lai happens. The guys in that unit who were responsible didn't mean to kill innocent people, they just didn't know who the innocent were. I hope that wherever Lt. William Cally is today, he knows that there are those of us who have not condemned him because we understand.

When you are in combat bad things happen. I know you liberal lemmings don't understand that. It was a sad thing that happened there, but what about the confirmed reports of the VC using children to blow up GIs? I have yet to hear a liberal say ANYTHING about that. Was the unit at My Lai hit by that before? Look it up, the answer might surprise you. If you saw your Buddie killed by "women and children" you might shoot first and ask questions later. Any time a child dies by violence the world is worse for it. But soldiers must be allowed to defend them selves.

When that happened , what they didn't mention was that the village had been feeding and supplying the Viet Cong and a number of the platoon had just been ambushed and killed not far from the village. Doesn't make it right, but an enraged group of soldiers in a violent conflict can make bad decisions and exact revenge in inappropriate ways.

If you've never been in combat you'll not understand. If you walk down a dark alley alone, you might be lucky enough to realize what it's like to be shot at.
You might also realize that a suicide bomber could be an innocent looking 4 year old.

Unfortunately it was a lot more widespread in Vietnam than you think. Part of the reason is the effect war has on people. Another part maybe the fact that if you train people to just be killers like the US marines did and might still do then some of them will kill un-remorsefully

Well wikipedia is about as accurate as the coran, so there is your first mistake. Secondly when two enemies are engaged in a conflict, any action taken within the country is not terrorism, is is war crimes. Study up kid, you will get better...

Because evil exists everywhere. Yesterday it visited Texas and had a mother hang her four children, then herself.

My husband is a veteran, he fought in Vietnam, he has never been the same. I will say wars are OK with me if it is invading our territory, but not OK to just save the world. Look at it now, many of the countries that were for us, united to us, in this war now, have changed their mind. Why is it that the U.S.A. is always protecting some other country and not making sure we will have others on our side to protect us. Right now they are taking and going to High Schools so that the 18 and 17 years old graduating can join the forces, they have killed some many men and women that they need more now. Maybe I notice this because I am in from of Mac Dill Air Force Base. But it is a shame that when it comes to us, we probably will not have enough men and women to defend this country. Vietnam and this war not were not necessary. Another thing, look at all those men that fought in Vietnam they have forgotten about them. NO help for them, I mean the bums you see on the streets, they are no bums, they had a family and everything like normal people have, but now they have gone crazy, and no one is there to help them. I know, I do volunteer work for veterans, I hear their stories, I do feel for them. So next time you see a bum, maybe you should salute him. I am sorry I went of course with this, but I am very passionate, when it comes to wars and the people that fight them.
