My mother's cat was sprayed right between the eyes by a skunk when I was a kid--I remember she soaked him in tomato paste (not sauce) in the tub, then rinsed him with lukewarm water. His eyes were swollen and either the paste or the water soothed them, and took away the stink.
I would be careful about using soaps/detergents that are not formulated for cats, because cats have sensitive skin and using those might irritate him even more than he's already being bothered by the skunk spray. Good luck!

I like the idea of taking her to the groomers. Let them deal with the smell. If your cat has long hair, I'd suggest shaving it before it is treated. It will make it that much easier to get the stink out and he will be more comfortable this summer.

I found this answer when I was watching the show "Mythbusters." on getting rid of skunk spray.
You mix together hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and a little dish soap and then wash your cat. This WILL get rid of the smell.
Good luck!

I agree with taking the cat to the groomers, or call a groomer and ask what you should do. There's probably a shampoo you can buy.

wash the cat in tomato sauce, and keep the poor cat inside from now on so you don't have to deal with this or worse again

It's bath time! They sell special shampoos for it. Just ask about it at your pet store. If you can't find it there ask your vet where you can find some.
