How can a left-handed person improve the legibility of their hand writing?

I've always had sloppy hand writing and would like to improve it. Go figure - my mother was a commercial artist - I sure didn't inherit her abilities (she's right handed). My hands get sore and cramped pushing the pen (right-handers get to pull it).

Any tips to greatly improve my handwriting as a lefty?

Forgot to mention ... I am sloppy at printing and cursive.

And ... I am a great typist. But you can't carry a typewriter around with you nor use it to sign documents, etc.

Illegible writing isn't actually a left/right-handed issue. Some "lefties" have less attractive hand-writing because they've had to adapt to right-handed notebooks, desks, and teachers/parents who encourage using the right hand. If you want to improve the neatness of your paper, make sure to keep your hand above your paper so it doesn't smear.

However, if you want to work on the actual form of your letters and words, it is possible. It takes practice and going back to writing letters and simple words over and over. Writing style stems from habit, so you need to change your habit. Use lined paper and make your letters using two lines of the paper (double the size of the usual writing) for practice. Find a style that you like, but it should not be totally different from your own. And practice copying it over and over. Make it your pastime for a while. You will see results!
