Not a good idea. Wood can cause blockages or peritonitis, both are very expensive to treat at the vets. Get them something appropriate to chew on.

It's not just beagles, I'm a dogwalker & I have 3-4 dogs that LOVE to find a good stick & chew it to bits. In fact, I've found that Gold Retrievers seem to be the ones that chew on sticks. It happened alot more in the spring, when the fallen twigs were still very tender...I'd wondered if they did this for the same reason they chewed grass, to relieve an upset stomach? You'll have to really watch & make sure they don't swallow very much of the stick, as it can cause gastric disturbances & possibly internal injuries if not digested well enough upon passing...

I have a beagle (he's 9 now) and he only chewed on wood twice when he was a puppy. Once on the dining room table leg and once on the baseboard of the wall. I put some bitter apple stuff (available at pet stores & supposed to taste terrible) on those areas and bought him something of his own to chew on. There's been no further problem.

They just want something to chew on. Get them some rawhide chews.
