I think India should worry about its exploding population more than its worthless air force. Wrap that rascal!

Nothing wrong with a MiG-21. Who will it be used against? Pakistan is a 90% certainty. Pakistan has a lot of Chinese made MiG-21's, old French Mirage III's & 5's. A handful of older generation F-16's. A bunch of Chinese MiG-19's in mothballs.
Hardly cutting edge. How about Sri Lanka? Bangladesh? Myanmar? Nepal? Bhutan? I think you could handle them. China? You need quantity, not quality. If they were to come at you, they'd send 500+ MiG-19's. They know they'd lose 400 in the first mission, but don't worry about those sort of things.
How do you beat China? Probably no one can.
Rather than spending huge amounts of your GDP on weapons you don't need, you need to need to take care of needy citizens.

Sure they are.I still can't understand why the government is continuing to sacrifice the lives of our officers by letting them fly antiques which could as well be sold to collectors and the money used for equipping the Air Force with some slightly used and better coffins. One gets the feeling that our defence ministry is waiting for all our aircrafts to be totalled and then consider placing orders with the Russians for their about-to-be-scrapped planes at prices which could perhaps equip about seven to ten countries the size of ours.Russia is waiting for a patsy just like us so that they could replace all their planes in one go. Have a Nice Day.

In any field, not just in the air force, having latest equipment does not necessarily mean that you are the best!
That the adversaries of India dare not think of fighting the Indian Air force, (not just their planes) which has the think tank and daring personnel capable of downing Mighty Sabre jets with good for nothing gnats as happened in 1965 and the recent event in Kargill are proof enough that your fears are totally unfounded.

It is a function of who you are going to fight against. There are few nations with better, more modern fighters than India and none of them have any reason to fight India. Better to use those billions on improving mass transportation than buying a squadron of front line fighters that you don't need.

Your view has merit: but in a social welfare State, the policy is all the time chasing the ideal military build up target, never really catching up, for want of fund allocations, for good reasons!
