So lets accept on it's face that sex is (as claimed by many, but not all, Christians) for the purposes of reproduction. Go forth and multiply, and all that. Say a man is sterilized, through no fault of his own. Accident as a child that damaged his testicles and he can't produce motile (yes, this is a word, and has a specific meaning other than "mobile") sperm. Or let's take hope away completely, and by defect his testicles produce nothing but the hormons he requires to express his male traits.
Since he can not, with an absolutely no chance whatesoever, ever produce even one sperm cell, is it a sin for him to have sex, even if he is married? Is it a sin, because the entire point of sex is reproduction (again, if you don't believe this, this is not targeted at you) and he can NEVER reproduce, is sex a sin for that man no matter what?
(The same situation could be applied to a woman, and same question applied)

I re-read my question, and I just wanted to stress again, that this question is not directed at those who view sex as a sort of "reward" (yes, it's crass wording, but it's before noon, gimme a break) for marriage. I really am wondering about this, and I am sincere in my intent, so please hold jokes to minimum, as I know that nothing with the word "sex" in it can avoid all jokes entirely.

"Sterility neither prohibits nor nullifies marriage" (Latin rite Catholic Code of Canon Law, #1084.3)

Sex is not solely for procreation. The bible views sex between a married couple as joining together. Becoming one. If you look at sex from a biblical perspective, it's only suppose to occur between a husband and wife. This is the only thing a husband and wife share just between them. It is what turns two people into one. that's why they call it consummating the marriage. It's as if the ceremony and documentation means nothing until they have joined physically. Now the world has distorted that and wonders why divorce is so high. Every time you have sex, you give a piece of you away. So to answer your question it's not a sin. It's a way to be intimate with one another in a way you can't be with anyone else.

NO because I don't think that God intended sex only for reproduction. I am a born again Christian. I believe that God intended sex to be a good thing between a man and a woman inside of marriage. It is for married people and he does want us to reproduce but that isn't the sole purpose of sex. So, no it's not a sin to have sex with your wife.

The entire point of sex is not just reproduction.
Although it is the only source of reproduction and going forth and filling the earth, it's also a privilege between husband and wife, a way for them to express their love for one another.
Proverbs 5:18.19 states: "rejoice with the wife of your youth, a lovable hind and a charming mountain goat. Let her own breasts intoxicate you at all times. With her love may you be in an ecstasy constantly."
He and his 'wife' can also enjoy sex together in a honorable way.

No, its not a sin. God created sex, and God wants us to be happy, so sex isn't just for reproduction, its for pleasure. There was lots of barren women in the OT, and they weren't sinning. And I've never heard of a Christian who thinks its a sin to have sex if you can't reproduce.

If you've ever read the Song of Solomon, you would know that sex is not intended only for reproduction.
Further, there are other passages that indicate that it is to be for pleasure. An example, "May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. A loving doe, a graceful deer-- may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love." (Proverbs 5:18-19)

Sex -intercourse - is the process used for reproduction. But by no mean is it a sin if you Can't reproduce. There are people in the bible that could not have children but they continued in their marriage duties.
The marriage bed is undefiled.

Catholics don't believe you shouldn't have sex. Even if you believe that you cannot reproduce... read the story of Abraham. His 90 year old wife had a baby and named it Isaac with means 'laughter' in their language. Even if one has no bullocks, God can make it happen... SO KEEP TRYING!
Also, as logic dictates, I don't think God would give a woman a clitorus if sex wasn't to be enjoyed.

Of course it's not a sin. Paul said, it's better for a man to get married than to burn with lust. Sex is a way to reproduce, yes, but's also a gift from God to be enjoyed with your soulmate.
It's not sin.

Having sex, in the proper context, is not a sin.
If no children are produced, that's the way it goes.
Even those with 'motile' sperm do not always impregnate.
Originally, the MAIN purpose of sex was to procreate.
It was not the ONLY purpose.
Another purpose is expression of love, itimacy.
As a side point, Jesus once said:
"There are eunuchs that were born such from their mother’s womb, and there are eunuchs that were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs that have made themselves eunuchs on account of the kingdom of heaven.
Let him that can make room for it make room for it.”
Matthew 19:12
Two things:
"make themselves eunuchs for the kingdom" has no rapport with self-mutilation. He refers to abstinence.
AND
Please notice the great freedom Jesus offers:
"Let him who can make room for it, make room for it."
Personal choice.

In all my years of being a Christian and knowning thousands of them, I have never met anyone who felt sex was simple for reproducing.
If someone can not have child, that does not mean God denies them sex.
Sex was created for a married couple to express their love for each other. Babies are a freebie ;)
