Intelligent Design Theory argues that because our existence is so complex and improbable that there MUST be a "Designer" or "Higher Power." Because of this "fact" we should include it in children's schoolhouse text books as an alternative scientific theory to Evolution.

Conversely, though, because there is so much suffering in the world from disease, starvation, war, calamity, and "evil" should we take this as scientific proof that the devil MUSTexist? Should we include this theory in children's science text books as an alternative to modern scientific understanding?

Tongue in cheek. Have a nice day.

Intelligent design is fantasy - and as children are taught about works of fiction then they should learn about intelligent design... but not in science classes. Science is about fact and evidence, not wishful thinking, faith and belief.

And to the answerer above - irreducible complexity is a fallacy. What exists is not a limitation on complexity but a limitation on your imagination.

As an example, a stone are bridge is irreducibly complex because if you remove any one block of stone the bridge will collapse. Yet it exists and was not put there by God. What you don't see is the framework that was erected before the bridge was built and which held the blocks until they were all in place. The same principle applies in biology - once a complex but more efficient system is established natural selection dictates that the simpler original "framework" system is no longer needed and counts against those organisms that continue to produce it. Thus over time the framework ceases to be apparent but, like the bridge, we can see it WAS there by the very fact of the existence of what followed.

"Intelligent Design" - Christianity's candidate for the greatest oxymoron of all time

ya know what I've found through out the years? Most people that say they don't believe in God, say they don't believe because they "Don't understand why there is so much suffering and unfairness in the world, and a loving God couldn't possibly allow this, so they don't believe at all."

Well, if I understood God, then He would be on my level of intellect, and that would mean that the world is in MAJOR trouble.

Personally, I don't want to understand God. As long as He is more intelligent than I am, I'm happy.

And just a note of interest- did you know that Darwin renounced his theory of evolution and said any being with a single part as complicated, detailed, and intricate as the eye could not possibly come from pure chance?

His cronies kept the myth of evolution going for financial reasons. They were making a fortune off the books and lectures, but used Darwins name because he was well known, and also any back lash was focused on him, not them.

ID scourge or the scourge nation as I like to call it.

the simple idea that the universe is SOOOOO complex that it just had to have been created by a designer. However no one ever considers that a designer that would have the ability the knowlage and power to create such a complex system in of its self would also have to be so complex that it would need a designer and so on and so on.

ID is creationism that uses no science and trys to spread lies that evoultion is not fact but just theory. The problem with that is 90% people don't know what a scientific theory and mistake it for a hypothesis.

Besides as all intelligent people know the Flying Spaghetti Monster is truly responsible for creation.

The greatest trick the devil did was to convince people he doesn't exist.

Intelligent design looks at empirical evidence and says that it would be impossible for life to evolve as stated in Neo-Darwinism. Natural selection is not sufficient as a force to produce life.

Many scientists agree that Darwinian Evolutionary Theory has many, many, problems.

Look at the data and see where it takes you, don't reject intelligence as causation just because you don't believe in God.

If you don't believe evil exists, then you must have blinders on.
I have seen in my generation changes in our society going from an immoral society to an amoral one.

Yes there is evil, yes there is sin, yes God exists and will judge and yes, there is a Satan

Way too literal interpretation of God, Spirit, etc. Take some BIG steps back and look at a bigger picture. When our debate within ourselves, or with others is of the material world vs the Spiritual, we can't get good answers explaining the Spiritual with material concepts. Unfortunately that seems to be what mankind does to create most religious belief systems, and then wonders why we sound so ignorant when trying to argue religion against science.

Knowing them they probably would put that in text books soon everything will be about or excerpt of the bible even the lunch menu( today we are going to have Holy meatloaf, bible rolls, jesus corn [the recipe he gave to the Native Americans on that famous documented visit], mash out the devil potatoes and blessed milk. Have a blessed day children. Watch the mind control count on that one someone will break.

This one made me laugh.

"Intelligent Design Theory" is such an antagonism in itself - if there were some intelligent guy who created all this, why should he create Pat Robertson? As a joke or to prove a sense of humor?

It's the same old story: some bigots try to gain power by nullifying science and declare that their lies are an industry standard.

Hey creationists, listen: the earth is flat, do you agree?

This is why we have to pose questions regarding the Intelligent Design "Theory" and the Creationist "sciences" in the Religion & Spirituality section, not in the Biology section of Science & Mathematics.

there is not any "information", and "smart layout" isn't an fairly "theory." a medical theory is an fairly certain difficulty and it needs to satisfy particular criteria: it needs to be logical (following the guidelines of medical good judgment), it needs to be testable, and it needs to be able of predicting destiny phenomena of its style. the concept of gravity is a medical theory, creationism isn't. this isn't to assert that creationism is inaccurate. basically that this is not medical. technology calls for an empirical procedure--calls for information and a procedure that interacts with the information. creationism, on the different hand, calls for purely faith. hence, creationism is a manufactured from faith, no longer technology. those are 2 branches of human expertise: the only depending on empiricism (issues which will be experienced without delay with the senses and the flaws that stick with logically from that adventure), and the different depending on faith (issues that can not be sensed with the actual senses and can't be shown). neither one, technology or faith, is more beneficial ideal than the different. they are for diverse applications, basically as a toothbrush and a frying pan are for diverse applications. the confusion comes because fundamentalist christians do not favor their followers to be counted on evolution. they locate (by some ability) that evolution threatens people's faith. it truly is bullshit, considering the fact that various scientists are christians, yet fundamentalists are not favourite for his or her openmindedness. their answer to this "project" is to create a faux medical theory, one which would not fairly fulfill the criteria of technology, to compete with evolution. they could damage out with this because our academic device in united statesa. has gotten so undesirable contained in the previous decade or 2, that maximum adult people do not fairly understand what the criteria of technology are, and so will be fooled into questioning that "smart layout" is fairly technology. this is not any longer technology, this is faith.

Glen w - You really don't have to look to god to find someone more intelligent than you; my dog is more intelligent, as well as probably 80% of the people you meet on the street.

Besides being stupid, you're also a liar.
Darwin did not recant. Ever.

Piss off.
