You can probably get a builder to do a custom one with laminate in the salon colours for less than that...it needn't be huge...just enough to make a statement...
Also, if the place is kind of modern-y feeling...check out Ikea, they have neat, modern looking things that sort of scream salon there just now...and you can get a better one when things get rolling...

I made a desk for my son from an old sewing machine cabinet (less machine). Put a solid piece of wood on top and painted it.
