I have just seen an answer on here that says that the Christian Bible says that infant boys should be circumsised at birth.

Is this true?

If it is then God cannot be perfect right? As he created humans in his perfect knowledge and perfect ability, yet then says (a few thousand years after he first created man a hasten to add) that his creation is not perfect and infant boys need to be circumsised.

Am I being foolish or does that make sense?

Moshing - No I don't know, hence the question. Thanks for the input.

Adore him - I get that idea from the fact that a 'perfect creator' made humans to his design, but then asked humans to change that design by circumcising them. Why would a perfect creator have to have its design changed at a later date? that is why I think that God cannot be perfect

Yes you are being foolish. Extremely foolish.

As you say God has perfect knowledge and perfect ability.

It doesn't take much knowledge to understand.

Circumcison was a ceremony to illustrate spiritual truths for the people of God for salvation, man having sinned and fallen under the judgement of God.

Circumcison is a symbolic ceremony to represent the cutting off of the flesh. The flesh represents the self life wherein all sin is committed.

It points out the requirement of the cross in the walk of holiness.

And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

Even under the Mosaic Law the requirement for the spiritual circumcision was stated - Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.

God remains omnipotent it is just that you were ignorant and lacking in understanding.

Circumcision was only for the children of Israel as a covenant between them and God. After Christ, a New Covenant came into being and circumcision was no longer necessary.

It is done today for cleanliness more than anything else. God commanded that it be done on the eighth day because that is when the blood coagulates the best.

Circumcision was originally a sign of sacrifice. Abraham had been asked by God to sacrifice his infant son as a symbol of his devotion to God, but when God saw his willingness and devotion to him, he told him not to sacrifice the baby. Instead Abraham offered God his foreskin as sacrifice and so the tradition continues in the Jewish faith that when a boy is seven days old, he is circumcised.

circumcision was done in the OT to symbolize God purifying and setting apart the Israelite boys. in the NT- Jesus said- it is not circumcision of the flesh but the heart that counts- Circumcision is not because God is not perfect- where did you get that idea?

Omnipotent means god is all powerful.

As for the circumcision, that was because God wanted his people to have a symbol of his grace on them. It was to be a simple way of telling who was an Israelite, and who wasn't.

Like all religious practice, it's the invention of human kind.
There is no God / gods. These are man made delusions.

Circumcision is an act called for by the church, not God. And remember, man wrote the Bible. He could include anything he wanted into the text.

I always thought that is was Jewish boys that were circumsised at birth, not christians. Anyway everyone thinks of improvements after they've finished something.

Circumsision was a way to show obediance. That was part of God's plan. However, Jesus abolished that when He died (thus creasting the new covenant) for us.
