It depends on your shape of face. I wouldnt advise you to get the chop just for the sake of it. What will you do if it looks horrible and doesnt suit you. Short styles dont suit everyone.
Why dont you have a compromise and go for mid length hair down. My mom has shoulder lengtth hair. Any shorter and it wouldnt look good.
Dont cut your hair for the sake of age. You must find the right length that will compliment your face.
I hope i helped.

I had long hair until my 30's and then I went for a shorter hairdo because I was in a career that required me to interact with many Government officials and the shorter hair made me feel more efficient.
Now that I am retired I have let my hair grow because I really love the look and I can envision myself as an old lady with hair in a braid wrapped around my head.
So that is my personal preference and I think that is all that matters. Whatever your personal preference, that is what you should go for. I don't think there is any age requirement.

It depends more on what becomes your face, figure and personality. I think short hair is hard for a lot of people, even 20somethings, to pull off.
Practically everybody looks younger these days. Who's going to be able to tell if you're over 40 and wearing your hair long anyway? Why should you cut it off just because you pass a number?
I'm 40, my hair is halfway down my back, and it's the envy of everyone. With my round face and thick curly hair, I would look like a poodle if I cut it off. I tried cutting it to my shoulders once and it exploded :). I do, however, look 30, and that might make the difference.
You just have to look at what works for you and decide.

Well my hair looks better short than long, I am just a short hair person. I know people out there think all girls should have long hair but that's so not true, and I have the pictures to prove it. I don't think that age should have any bearing on what length a woman's hair is, a woman should have her hair in the style that most flatters her face and figure.

If you enjoy having long hair, then leave it alone! But if you'd like to try out a shorter style, than go for it. Don't do it because you should do it at a "certain age." That's total nonsense. Color it, cut it, don't cut it - your prerogative - if you feel beautiful, that's all that counts :-)
If you do decide to get it cut short, do some research on styles that you feel would flatter your face. There are some good websites and also magazines that can help you with this. Or, just go for a consultation with your stylist.

Never if they don't want to. I don't plan on having hair to my butt when I'm 80, but I'll never have it above my shoulders because I don't have the right face for it, no matter what age I am. Other than that, I think a good time is when and if taking care of it gets to be problem, like not being able to reach around or reach up as well because of the aches and pains of aging.

I have had long hair all my life (I'm only 26) and will probably never "chop" mine. I say that as long as you are comfortable with your look keep it. Long hair is a thing of beauty and is becoming more and more rare. Some women including celebrities pay good money and lots of it to have long hair so why not keep what the good Lord gave you and flaunt it.

Why must there be a set age? Jaime Lee Curtis and especially a YOUNG Halle Berry looked amazing in SHORT SHORT hair, but you have to find what is right for you? If short hair looked severe on you at a young age, it won't look great suddenly because you are older. Go to a stylist and let them find a cut to make you look amazing. Please forgot the silly notion that age requires shorter hair. There is a hair length and cut for anyone.

Well i dont think women need to chop hair off at a certain age. But i do feel that it needs to get shorter as they get older. I dont really have an age limit just as long as its shoulder length and above.
