probably not on a downward curve. Just a little flat.

One thing is for sure if more people rode bikes and used less oil it wouldn't hurt.

I feel the Economy is good, but, many ways to look at this. Oil prices cause inflation. Last year I could buy a Tomato for $1 a pound and this year it is $1.69. So, I can say the economy is good, but, my buying power is less than a year ago.
Also, many companies are moving overseas because their labor costs are less. Will this hurt the economy in the future? Or, does this mean we just change our employment focus?
When I got a Degree in business management the teacher was very good. He was a Business Consultant and taught just because he enjoyed it. At that time the class discussed the economy and jobs. He said, many companies are moving, but, America is a leader in Technology and we would eventually become more service and information oriented. So, we have a good economy, but, we have to look at where the jobs are. If, Programming Companies are moving to Malaysia then this may not be a good field to train in. But, if, Landscaping (A service) is booming, then a course in Horticulture would insure employment. Just because we can not find a job in our expertise does not mean the economy is bad, it just mean we have to look forward and train in a profession that will be in demand.

Snag... is correct. The doom and gloomers will always say the economy or something else is in a crisis. If you are looking to get into buggy-whip manufacturing you will be severely disappointed. With single digit unemployment there are plenty of jobs, you just have to be selective on what field you choose.
An economics teacher once told me you can tell how good the economy is doing by the number of trucks on the road. Last time I was on the interstate there were plenty of trucks.
