I have a cat who has done the same for years! We got him one of those running water rock displays that you can plug into the wall. Problem solved... he no longer drinks out of the sink. He loves it and refuses to drink out of anything else. I think he likes the running water because it is easier to drink and it feels cooler than standing water. There is nothing wrong with cats drinking this way. I prefer it actually because it saves having to clean bowls all the time. You just have to pay attention to the water level because if it gets to low the electric pump can burn out very easily. Just remember to top it up with fresh water every morning. Plus they are very pretty to have in the house and inexpensive these days. We keep ours in our kitchen on a side counter and he jumps up to drink. we have moved it to different places in the house too and he always manages to find it.
they have some great ones on ebay.co.uk... and .com

I have this problem and it is ongoing. I have added a small water bowl right beside the faucet. I fill it every time I turn the water on. They really like cold water and if I fill this little bowl, they will drink out of it, while I brush my teeth. This time of year (for me) the cats like that cold water and their water in there bowl is room temperature. So far the little bowl is working, because they don't run in there as much as they used to. I can sometimes actually brush my teeth without an audience. I have had the bowl in there for about three weeks and am still rating this procedure.

You're lucky to have a cat who gets a kick out of drinking water! The more water a cat drinks, the healthier they stay. I agree that you might want to try a cat drinking fountain if she's so enthusiastic about running water - it might at least distract her. But if not, it's not a "problem," really, just a random behavior. Look at it this way - if you ever have to give her pills, all you'll have to do is walk into the bathroom, and she'll jump right up for you!

I'm trying to break my cat of an irritating water habit also. She has a water bowl that she does drink out of but prefers for me to fill a bathroom cup for her all the time. I guess she likes it being fresh cold water. I've stopped giving it to her long ago but she still races me to the bathoom and jumps in the tub meowing. I wouldn't mind her drinking in the bathroom if she didn't insist on it being in my tub and the water being poured fresh each time. I mean like if she drinks now, in 30 minutes it won't be good enough for her highness. Crazy cat, at least she doesn't drink from the toilet like a dog!

My cats drink out of the faucet too, and, we dont do anything to stop them, we let them drink, but, something else we do, is, we leave a small dixie cup on the sink filled with water. This allows them to drink water, but, just not from the faucet. If there is a problem with her drinking from the faucet, don't allow her to do it. if she jumps up onto the sink, put her back down. Dont turn the water on for her to drink. I dont know what else to tell you, but, i am sure that eventually she'll learn that way. good luck!

Why stop her?
A lot of cats like drinking running water, including my own cat!
I think it's a natural instinct for them that in nature running water is better/safer to drink!
I love watching my cat drink like that and I think u should let her keep doing it because cats are dehydrated 100% of the time so if u want to avoid future kidney problem for her let her drink as much as possible.
You're lucky that she likes it and u don't have to worry about her not getting enough water!

Mine does that too....loves it. There is a running fountain cat waterer for sale in our local pet store. You can purchase that and it adds a beautiful fountain to your home and lets the cat drink from a source that feels clean and pure to it. If you didn't want to add a purchase....let kitty drink....or push it away when you go in the direction of the sink. They need that fresh water and it's not doing any harm.

My cat does this too and I don't have a problem with it...just let your cat get on with it...we do have to keep the toilet lid down though or she would be in there as well....she will drink from most any place but the bowl we put her water down in. She even used to drink from my glass of water as well....

The kitchen sink, the bathroom sinks, the bath tub faucet - we have a cat who loves them all, and we spoil him. We have one of those cat fountains, but they seldom drink out of it.
We have one cat that prefers to drink the water out of a hydroponic planter in the kitchen window.
Cats are crazy.
