Go to a different tattooist. I had a tattoo on my upper arm.. tattooist messed it up. Ive found a really good tattooist that has brilliant ideas of how he can fix it... and i trust he can im just waiting for the £160 he charging to fix it up... Remember once the ink is in there is only so much fixing another tattooist can do to fix it.. don't go to the cheaper tattooist always remember no tattooist has a licence to tattoo just a Hygiene licence pay bit extra for the custom tattoo shops i dont know where about

That is why you do plenty of research before you get the work done. Look into the shop, look into the individual artist. Most artists are more than happy to show you a book of there work. Ask them question like how long they have been tattooing, how long they were an apprentice before they were a professional tattoo artist. Things like that.
Just try to find out as much as possible and you will be fine.
Don't rush getting it, take is slow and you will then have a piece of art on your body to look at for the rest of your life.
Also keep in mind that even a tattoo that gets screwed up can usually be fixed. My boyfriend has a gas mask tattoo on his arm and the outline was done by one artist but it was so screwed up. It wasn't straight and both sides of the mask were not the same... it was a mess... however he took it to a different artist and the guy was able to redo the outline and color it in. Now it looks fantastic. My boyfriend got a crappy tattoo because he got it on a whim, and didn't do his research. He has learned his lesson...

Well, the best advice is research your tattooist thouroughly. Buy some tattoo magazines, Skin Deep is good and has a list of tattoo studios in the back. Look at the names of the artists in the magazines, and only go to one of these. Look at their portfolio, do you like the look of their work? If so , and if you put all this time and effort into your search, then the liklihood of them jacking your tattoo is minimal. But thats the risk you take.

Well usually tattoo artists don't just mess up a tattoo. I would definatly take a look at their previous work and talk to people who have had tattoo's done by the same artist. When I got my first tattoo the artist let me sit in on another persons tattoo just so I could prepare myself and it really made me feel comfortable. And they made a copy of the tattoo I wanted and then made a temporary tattoo that they put on my skin so I could see how I liked it and then used that as a guide instead of just freehanding it.
Also, if they did mess up your tattoo. (Which generally doesn't happen unless you are using an inexperianced artist or going to someones house and letting them use their home-made tattoo gun (((scary))) There are tattoo artists who specialize in covering up mistakes or correcting botched tattoos. I would ask the shop you are going to use if they have an album with pictures of before and afters.
And as with anything that is a lasting modification, researching the shops and artists is really important. Talk to other people who have tattoo's because they can give recommendations or tell you who to aviod if they have had a bad experiance.
Good Luck! :)

There is always that chance. Tattoos are a risk (I have 4 myself btw). Make sure you check out the place before you go. It's clean, they use new needles each time, new ink etc.
Most artist use a stencil of what you want then they outline it, then the color, shade etc. Most artist will offer to do retouch if something isn't to your liking a few weeks down the road.
I have a tribal scorpion on my back and it wasn't as dark as I wanted so the artist retouched it no charge... of course I tipped him.
There is another critical step ... aftercare of the tattoo, people b!tch and moan that their tats looks like crap a year down the road most of the time it's from in proper aftercare, under cleaning, over cleaning not using a & d oitment, exposing the tat to the sun, picking at it while it's healing etc.
Hope this helps

Befor you have the tattoo artist do your tattoo,do some research on him.her...ask to look @ his work. Most 'good' artists keep photos of their own work and most artists (proffesioal ones) are not offended when you do ask..they understand that it is a big and pemamant decicion. Or you can look at your friends tatts...if u see a certain style you can ask who their artist is. If by chance the artists DOES mess it up,let tem know exacty what you think, they will do what it takes to make you happy so you do come back to them next time! Do not be scared to speak your mind to them! Trust me,they understand how big of a deal it is!
*if happy w/ their work, make sureyou tip them at the end!!!!

Ask people you know where they got theirs. I drove 7 hours to go get mine done by the tattoo artist my family uses. It was a long drive but well worth it being this tattoo will be with me forever.
Also don't pick the place based on the price. Is it worth saving $20 bucks and getting something that looks bad?

if you want a tattoo make sure you go to a well known tattooist in your area, most tattooists are licensed now. or ask about & find out where most ppl go for theirs & check them out. usually cheap tattooists are scratchers & are a load of crap so stay clear. i know through experience!! i use the same tattooist now for all my work & wouldn't go to anyone else.

i had that happen...........the only thing you can do other than remove it, is go to a person you can trust to fix it. I had a tattoo done horribly wrong, by a guy that i trusted and he did one of my other tattoo's beautifully.........he just screwed up my shoulder tattoo........i found out later he found out he was going back to prison the following day, so he was stressed out. Anyway, alot of money later, my tattoo is fixed and pretty. It's just a guessing game, tattoo artists are people too and have "off" day's.

Do some research and ask other people who have tattoos where they went. You should be comfortable with the artist you choose. A good tattoo artist will always be willing to show you his/her work.
