I wouldn't say desparate. Probably just "modern" if the woman proposed. I don't have a problem with it.
Almost creates a sort of romantic competition; who will propose first?!

Who said it was wrong?? In today's day & age anything can happen! Maybe a man doesn't see tying the knot is the way to go when he can have sex with his partner when ever he wants! But part of the problem is the woman's fault for allowing sex to take place, when she should tell her partner to wait till after marriage! If a coup[le are that keen & happy & they both work really hard, thoughts of marriage doesn't always enter a man's mind, co's he may know he can get everything a single man can get from his partner without getting married, so it could be said that the woman is partly to blame for allowing things to get as far as they have! As far as I'm aware women can propose to a man if she wants & there's nothing stopping that from happening! In the past it has always been a gentleman's job to do the proposing, but the way society is changing either can pop the question!! Cheers!!

The old English rule was that a female could propose in a leap year, generally a presidential election year (2000 was exception).
I do not think that there is any reason you should not propose, but I would only do it after trying to extract it by hints for a couple of months. Remember many men are dopey about these things, so the hints have to be pretty clear. Why hint for a couple of months, because it is far better if he thinks that it is his idea - he takes ownership.

I did. I just didn't want to waste my time with someone who wasn't thinking marriage, so I asked him if he wanted to get married. Not terribly romantic I guess, but since he isn't either, I doubt he ever would have proposed as he has a 'why fix it if it ain't broken' attitude LOL :-D a couple of years later we bought a ring...(once we'd set the date) and got married another year later. Terribly unromantic.. but that's us, laid back and unconventional. Heck, our 'reception' was held in our open carport.. as it was the only shady place in town! I cooked all the food.. and then we drove 600km to the nearest town to spend one night in a hotel. So with all that craziness, why not propose as well? You make your own life.. I am not the type of girl that would just date forever and wait patiently for the man to make up his mind.. if he wasn't serious, then he wasn't the right one, it's that simple. If you want your marriage to last, your values must be similar and if my man had said no just because I asked HIM, then c ya later. Imagine the other hiccups he has.. My man is a strong character and so am I, but it works for us.

Well, no it is not okay for a woman to propose to a man it just is really weird, so thank goodness you wont. The woman needs to feel that special feeling when she is proposed to, now a man, that would be just plain weird!

usually a man who propose is a man who is ready for the new chapter of his life. If he is not proposing, maybe he is not ready yet..or he's just preparing. Don't spoil the surprise. i think you just have to wait.. but if you feel that everything is alright and you're both stable, go on and ask for marriege. how long will it take to wait..it really depends from one couple to another..

Sure I proposed to my husband, notice I said HUSBAND right? I don't see anything wrong with it we were pregnant with our second child and I was just kind of tired of being "shacked up" so we made ourselves a little family......he had a bad divorce before he met me so, of course he needed some time but, I think it was better this way becaues some guys are really scared and sometimes need a little push.

IT IS MORE THAN OKAY! I DID IT! AND MY GUY WAS THRILLED. I WAS VERY NERVOUS DOING IT THOUGH. I ASKED, AND THOUGHT IT WOULD TAKE HIM A COUPLE OF DAYS, MAYBE EVEN WEEKS TO ANSWER. TO MY SURPRISE AFTER I ASKED, I SENT A ECARD, AND A MARRY ME VIDEO TO HIM. HE SAID "YES" WITHIN THE SAME DAY! THEN, I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT HIM A BEAUTIFUL CABLE CHAIN RING THAT HE WEARS ALL THE TIME. HE SAYS HE LOVES IT AND EVERY TIME HE LOOKS @ IT GIVES HIM THOUGHTS OF PLEASURE ABOUT ME, AND IT MAKES HIM FEEL CLOSER TO HIM, WHEN I AM NOT WITH HIM. (SHHH). CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET? IN DECEMBER FOR THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS, I AM GOING TO BUY HIM A TWO TONED GOLD AND WHITE GOLD CARITER WEDDING BAND. * I THINK HE IS GOING TO FREAK! THE RING HAPPENS TO BE GORGEOUS, JUST LIKE HE IS! IT IS EXPENSIVE, BUT HE IS WORTH EVERY PENNY. AND THAT IS WHY I HAVE TO SAVE UP FOR IT NOW. HE LOVED THE RING I GAVE HIM AFTER THE PROPOSAL, BUT WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HE GOING TO DO WHEN HE SEES THIS RING? I THINK HE WILL CRY, & JUST FADE IN MY ARMS WITH LOVE :) :) :) ! = it is not a desperate thing when you completely love the man who you are proposing to.

All depends on the relationship. I know a couple that had been together for a long time. They had spoken about wanting to marry several times, but he never popped the question. One day she did. She hadn't planned for it, the situation was just right for her, so she asked. - He said yes :o)
