I suppose with genetic engineering, a female could give birth to an exact clone of themselves.

I would bet that scientists in this day and age could do that. Obviously there would be ethical implications of such an act...

This idea was written about, and expanded upon by the writer Robert A. Heinlen. I found out about this story from a friend of mine who read the book years ago and we spoke about it recently. You need to concentrate because the plot is a little complicated. The sory is called "All you zombies -"

Heinlen, along with Isacc Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke are considered the top three writers of "Hard" science fiction. This is science fiction which has an emphasis on scientific detail or accuracy which could be seen as reasonably possible.

it relatively is unquestionably in all probability achieveable. in certainty, it relatively is achieveable, with the aid of battling the ejection of the polar globule and then with the aid of activating the resultant egg with the aid of DNA loose sperm (sperm that has been irradiated, as an occasion) to create a a ineffective ringer for the mum. It actual is finished particularly without delay in fish. Now, i don't recognize that that's been executed in mammals (their eggs tend to be extra fragile), and it definitely has no longer been tried in human, despite the fact that it relatively is in the area of the technically achievable.

Only if you're a chick. Season VII of Red Dwarf had this one called Ouroboros, where Lister fathered himself. Does that count?

Edit... obviously me too, Reigan. :-)
