I'm heading into my 3rd year of Nursing school, and so far I have done 1 clinical rotation at a nursing home. We did all the basic things that CNA's do, so would someone hire me? Or do I have to take the CNA certification course still?

You're more than likely are eligible to take the CNA exam. All you need is the geriatric clinical and fundamental nursing. Why become a CNA when you're in your third year of nursing. I would challenge the NCLEX-PN exam. I presume you're going for your BSN. Since you completed your second year I'm pretty sure you can challenge the NCLEX-RN exam. My friend is in the BSN program (on her fourth year) and after her second year she took the nclex-rn and passed. So, now, she's working as an RN and about to complete her BSN.

In order for you to work as a CNA, most places require you to be certified if you're working on the books and legally. It's to cover their butts, the patients' butts, and your butt. Some places are regulated by the state, so they're even more particular since the state can show up unannounced and go thru their employment records.

You do have to be certified. However, if you feel comfortable enough in your skills and knowledge, you may be able to challenge the exam, both clinical and written. A helpful website for everything CNA related, including free study guides for the exam is: www.nursingassistantcentral.homestead.com
I found this website to be of great help, and still use it. :)
