It has nothing to do with DaVinci Code. Do you people think that's the only place that has ever brought this up? Expand your horizons. This has been around forever.

I agree and have seen that as well. Probably because people couldn't understand a "single" woman following Jesus everywhere. He cast out 7 demons out of her and she was very happy about that....most people of the time probably thought she was mad....which means most likely they ignored and went out of their way to avoid her rather that wanting to be near her. Seeing her as ostracized, most people just jump to the conclusion it was because of being a prostitute rather than digging to find the truth. Thanks for asking.

Mary Magdalene has been associated with the "woman in the city who was a sinner" (Luke 7:37) who washed Jesus' feet, but there is no scriptural basis for this. The city of Magdala did have a reputation for prostitution. This information, coupled with the fact that Luke first mentions Mary Magdalene immediately following his account of the sinful woman (Luke 7:36-50), has led some to equate the two women. John 11:2, though, identifies the women in Luke 7:36-50 as Mary of Bethany, not Mary Magdalene.

Mary Magdalene is also often associated with the woman whom Jesus saved from stoning after she had been taken in adultery (John 8:1-11) - again an association with no evidence. The movie “The Passion of the Christ” made this connection. This view is possible, but not explicitly taught in the Bible.

It is generally believed that the woman accused of adultery in John 8 was Mary Magdalene. Although I can't remember off the top of my head whether the word prostitute is ever used in scripture to describe her, again it is generally accepted that she was. But this is not an inditement against her in the Bible or anywhere else. Rather it is used to show three things.
One, to show God's ability to forgive.
Two, to show we can all change and be changed/rescued from our past no matter what.
Three, to show none of us are perfect and we all have better things to be doing than going around judging people.
No matter what she did in the past it is clear Mary found a new life following Jesus.

Read the "Da vinci Code" Although not 100% factually accurate, it dose present the fact that the Vatican is run by Men, and too keep power why not pick one of the major characters in the bible and make her a whore. They couldn't do it to the blessed Mary for obvious reasons, so they took number 2 in the new testament to establish there power over women.

It says in the Bible that she was a prostitute who repented. If that is anything to go by, she WAS a whore but "mended her ways" after meeting Jesus.

If this is in relation to anything DaVinci Code, drop it before you sink deeper and remember that the DaVinci Code was never meant to be anything more than a controversial work of fiction.

People insist many things. That doesn't make it true. I learn the Truth by reading the bible with the Holy Spirit who gives me understanding in it. Then also, at church service the Pastor will confirm something by preaching it & clarifying it more.

It doesn't say she was a prostitute. It is written that Jesus saved her from 7 demons. She was completely demon possessed. Now she is a redeemed Saint.

Mark 16

9 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. 10 She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping. 11 When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it.

Luke 8

The Parable of the Sower

1 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod's household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.

She was a woman with her own money. When the Bible was translated in Europe, the only way women had their own money was to sell herself because work that a woman could do legitimately - wet nurse, sewing, milk-maid, midwifery - didn't pay well and it was forbidden for women to inherit. All property belonged to the father or husband.

Well, Jill, people believe that if they tell a lie loud enough and long enough, they can make that the "new" truth.

And you are correct as to the Bible not saying she was.

You get a star.

What if she was? What exactly is the problem?

Was Jesus a client of hers? The two women that had a dispute over a baby were prostitutes. Jesus was not preaching to the non-sinners.
