At the end of many editions of the Old Testament, it says the End of the Prophets. Most Jews consider the last of the OT prophets to be the last word that God has spoken. That is all God had to say to mankind. No more revelation for the past 2400 years.
Christians disagree. After 400 years of silence, God spoke to us again through John the Baptist, Jesus, and the apostles. They believe that the Jews are wrong to think that revelation ended 400 years earlier. However, they believe that after the death of the apostles, there was no more revelation. The end of the NT is the End of the Prophets. That is all that God had to say to mankind. No more revelation for the past 2000 years. Sound familiar?
Mormons disagree. After 1800 years of silence, God spoke to us again through Joseph Smith and continues to do so through subsequent prophets. We believe that revelation will never cease. Whether you are Jew, Christian, or Muslim, can you tell me what's wrong with that belief?

Fuzzy -- in what sense or in what case do the LDS revelations fail to concord with Biblical revelation. Show me some, for I can find none.

Actually, the Bible does NOT teach the end to revelation(as long as these revelations do not oppose the Scriptures), prophecy or to the end of the other gifts of the Holy Spirit, like healings, miracles, speaking in tongues, etc. There are many Christian ministries out there right now-today- (that are often mocked by others who say that these things are done away with) where they have documentation of (tens and even hundreds of) thousands of confirmed healings, miracles, etc.
One very credible ministry has been on T.V. continuously since 1966, has over 1 million daily viewers and is seen in over 200 countries. They are often the first or one of the first on the scene of natural disasters to help-Operation Blessing-providing millions of dollars of medicine, food, water, clothing, job training, etc. They have also built Regent University and the American Center of Law and Justice.(CBN Ministries) Many people have been healed through their ministry-prophetic messages are also given that have been accurate.I have listed some links below to some of the many ministries out there that do believe in the Holy Spirit and His work today.
One of the big reasons why many Christian churches have stayed away from the gifts of the Holy Spirit is because there have been so many false prophets and false prophecies. There has been a lack of the Biblical standard of judging prophecies to see if they are truly from God or not.
Although I am not Roman Catholic, I know that they have prophecies and miracles from the early church right up to modern times.

Sentinel is right, David, you confuse prophecy with revelation. Even in orthodox Christianity (Orthodox, Catholic, Anglican, etc) there are "prophets." There are also leaders given the gift of leadership through the Holy Spirit. But revelation, as to the truths of the faith, have not changed. There are even many "private" revelations, Fatima, Jesus appearing to Faustina Kowalska. One way to know if these private revelations are really from the Lord or not is to see if the substance of the revelation concurs with what God has already said.
Just because it is a new or more recent "revelation" would not make it necessarily truly from God.
I find it funny that in Salt Lake City, inside the Catholic Cathedral is emblazoned St. Paul's warning from Gal 1:8 "Even if an angel of light should come and teach a different gospel, let him be anathema!"
Don't get me wrong, David, I find Mormons to be nice people, but I think they don't know understand how much their religion contradicts both the Old Testament and the New Testament, and I find it a little to convenient that they say "Oh, that's because the Bible was edited to take out the Mormon stuff."

If you need the scriptures for NT prophets I can find many for you. God tells his people that he always will reveal what is to come. Thus the Christian prophets spoke and wrote under inspiration.
The LDS claim cannot be pushed aside without investigation, since God's kingdom has not been established yet. Once that comes, prophets may not be needed any longer. (ask why)
However, the problem with all claims is that the Bible demands that we test the inspired expressions. For example, if Christians are taught by the Bible that Jesus is God's son, then any and all revelations coming later obviously must agree with those revelations! This makes the utmost sense, right?
***** Thus basic truths previously revealed must remain unchanged! ******
This is were when the LDS inspired scriptures that they introduce are tested against previous scripture -- they fail the test. Sorry -- I intend no disrespect.
(ask how and where)
I must commend the LDS people on their zeal, and their devotion to their goals, and to the nice attitude of their young men and women. They are always well mannered and have a sweet mouth (no profanity). Many study their scriptures a lot.

>>I find Mormons to be nice people, but I think they don't know understand how much their religion contradicts both the Old Testament and the New Testament
There is one important issue that makes Joseph Smith's message from God very suspect. That is, it doesn't agree with the doctrine taught in either the Old or New Testaments.
If you want me to tell you what is wrong with your belief in Joseph smith...toss their book away and to lean on the Holy Spirit to guide me into all truth... follow after the Holy Spirit & not so much my own understanding, I trust & obey

There is one theme running thru here-that what we believe does not follow the Bible. But, what it is is that we don't follow YOUR INTERPRETATION of the Bible.
Personally, I find the LDS church to be the MOST BIBLICAL church.

It depends what you mean regarding revelations and actual prophecy David; God has indeed revealed all that we need to know for our salvation thru Jesus and in turn Jesus taught this revelation to the Apostles and made them the guardians and messengers, but it is true to say that revelation ended with the death of the last Apostle John and nothing new can be added; prophecy however does not and cannot add to revelation and this is one sure sign that those that do are false and likewise the so called Prophet.
Prophecy can only warn or foretell the events already revealed in the scriptures.

I see you walk the line the LDS church has taught you very closely. The main line Christian bodies of today DO NOT dent prophecy at all. As a Christian I have received direct revelation myself. The Bible is divided up into groups of books. The Law (PENTATEUCH), the prophets, The Gospels, the letters, and the revelation. All just names.
There is one important issue that makes Joseph Smith's message from God very suspect. That is, it doesn't agree with the doctrine taught in either the Old or New Testaments. The teaching of the plurality of gods is one of those that doesn't fit. The teaching that the Father is a corporeal being is also outside biblical teaching. The idea of prophets is NOT at odds with the teaching of Biblical Christianity. While many of your doctrines are... Jim

I don't believe it writes the end of the Prophets anywhere in the bible.
Jesus said that the Prophet prophecied until John was the one who shouted, "Prepare ye the way of the LORD!". This is of the Spirit of Elijah. There is no greater Prophet than this. Now, there are Prophets after Jesus ascended. All the New Testament books are written prophetically. Prophet John wrote Revelation.
And Jesus promised a Comfortor who came in Pentecost (That is the 1st day after the 7 week Holy Day.). And also filled the people in the upper room with the Holy Spirit. Where people praised God in tongues (different languages they didn't know). And they prophecied. And also the other gifts were given written about in Acts & Corinthians.
Today God is pouring out His Spirit, and we all know in part & look through a cloudy mirror. But when we see Jesus, we will know Him like He knows us. The gifts will cease, like the gift of praising God in tongues. I believe because we will know all languages including heavens language. Because the gifts teach us a little of this and a little of that. But when we are in heaven, everything comes clear & whole.
I am not a Christian who believes God quits revealing things to us. But that God reveals to us through the Holy Spirit, through the Pastor or the Office of Prophet ( http://www.kimclement.com ) or through a personal gift of prophecy of encouragement through another in faith.
But the foundation is the Holy Bible. The anointing leads me in the Holy Bible & brings to mind the scripture (Word of God) & then understanding based on the scripture) But God reveals to His people through His Holy Spirit (Whether the Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors or Teachers; or the prophetic gifts to encourage one another in faith.). The anointing that is the Spirit of Truth & leads into all truth (1Jn2:27). This is the anointing given to all born of God, born of His Spirit & cleansed by His Blood.
If you want me to tell you what is wrong with your belief in Joseph smith... I had an understanding that Mormons had a nice family ideology. But the anointing who leads me into all truth, led me to toss their book away and to lean on the Holy Spirit to guide me into all truth. God had just healed me from a 1 yr breakdown. So. Since I follow after the Holy Spirit & not so much my own understanding, I trust & obey. There is no other way, to be happy in Jesus, is to trust & obey.

"It is known that Marcus Garvey prophesied that there will be a black King that will represent the liberation for the oppressed black nation. Undeniably the Rasta community came to understand that person to be King Haile Selassie of Ethiopia."
"One night when Muhammad was forty years old, he was alone in the cave of Hira when a spirit appeared to him at the door of the cave. That spirit grasped him suddenly and squeezed him until he thought he would die and commanded him, "Read: in the name of thy Lord who Createth. Createth man from a clot and thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, Who teacheth by the pen, Teacheth man that which he knew not"
Jemima Wilkinson said, "I have passed through the gates of a better world, and I have seen The Light. But they asked me to return to you, my brothers and sisters, a second Redeemer, to show you the way to salvation."
Belief is a relative thing, from the obscure, bizarre and powerful. Joseph Smith may not be anything but a misguided soul.

I can't believe how many of you who claim to be Christian on here have such a condescending little attitude. You go on about how Mormons are "nice" but commence to belittle them by saying none of them understand their own religion. Wow, you are so all-knowing as to know all about everyone's religion and yours. It smacks of the attitude many of your type had toward Native Americans, viewing them as children that were too dumb and needed to be educated by you.
