I know this is a major money maker for retailers, which makes me wonder if it's worth it. The fabric is microfiber, which is naturally easy to clean.

It is my opinion that if you are paying big bucks for these items they need to come pre - protected. The sales commission on this "service" is about 40%.

Microfiber is easy to clean.

I would bet that a large can of 3M protectant will cost a lot less than the treatment offered. As a sidenote, I keep hearing how easy it is to remove stains from microfiber, but there sure are lots of questions in Cleaning Forum asking how to do it.

Absolutely not. I got scammed into buying it, but we've never needed it. Microfiber does not easily stain. If you spill something all you have to do is clean it with some water and soap and when it dries you wont be able to see anything.

Just buy a can of spray-on fabric guard. This is the kind I use - it's only $14.

If you "play hard to get" you can often get them to lower the price. That said, I wouldn't bother.
