The bible, as we know, was God-breathed (inspired).
Scripture was written with the assumption that God already exists....there was no question about it (and I completely agree as a born again Christian).

With that said, the burden of proof doesn't lie on us to prove that God does exist.....but rather....it lies on the non-believer to prove that He doesn't.

Agreed?

Gwynfor....
I wouldn't read that Dawkins book if someone paid me to do so.....

For us, no evidence(in the physical) besides a supernatural encounter could have proven it. Well guess what? Becoming born-again is a supernatural experience.

Most atheists will deny that, and a large portion will deny supernatural things altogether.

So yes, for me there is no burden of proof.

I am just unable, without the will of God, to get that point across. But it does happen--it happened to me.

HA HA HA. Yeah, Im laughing at you and your logic (if thats what passes for liogic these days...)

See, important fact here that you seemed to have overlooked, despite using your own words: Scripture was written with the ASSUMPTION that God exists. So, if we want only to ASSUME and not to know truth or reality, than sure, your logic works. However, Ive learned long ago that ASSUMING anything is the wrong way to live - and is especially a dangerous way to live your life or make decisions based upon assumptions.

I also wish to state that it is terribly ignorant for you to refuse to read a book by Dawkins. Why not open your mind - no one said you have to beleive everything you read - but it goes a long way further to defending your own viewpoints if you UNDERSTAND the opposing viewpoints. This is the reason I read religious literature all the time....dont worry - the ignorance I come across isnt contagious, so the knowledge you will come across in a Dawkins book wont be contagious either....unfortunately.

I don't think it matters. God does exist and cannot be disproven. The proof of a higher power is all around.

Why it doesn't matter? You can't prove there isn't a God.

Because faith is a huge part of belief. Even if the rapture happened and Jesus took away all the beleivers- the others would still spin it as a conspiracy or a hoax of some sort. If a persons heart is closed off to God only God himself has the power to change them. Nothingany human can do changes anything. All we can do is plant the seed. It is all up to God.

No I don’t. You need to do a crash course in logic. Take a vacation in Europe to see where the real world has gone. You Americans (presuming that you are), are the only modern society left on the planet that still believes in this Jesus thing and that an infallible book was inspired by a god. You born-agains sound funny to the rest of the world did you know that?

Interesting choice of words
The problem with that statment is that you said it in the 21st century which will cause a problem.
Since science rules the tables of book authors now aswell as alot of other tables, this idea may be sound, to those of us who understand your point of view, but its still a law of the day that you have to prove somethings existence rather than tell someone to disaprove it.

Silly as that sounds when refering to the almighty himself, you need to remember that there are alot of people who belive and know, and also alot that dont.

now speaking for the other side of the table so you can get a clear perspective.
the bible it cannot be proven, was written by god. through a secretarial form or other (nobody sat and told god to go ahead and wrote notes to what he said)
reguardless of the bibles statments its kinda hard to prove that when the author or person in the story isnt able to testify in a court of law ( dumb i know )

You know what i think, i think the question shouldnt be about "prove him not there" or "prove him there at all"

i think the question should be "why shouldnt he be there"
think about all the good things his presence represents not try to prove his existence, he is obviously there for christians and catholics who need him, and not there for people who dont have a purpose for him in their lives at the moment.

he may have just intended that very thing with free choice ')

heh, good stuff to talk about and think about if you can get down in the nitty gritty and really concider stuff like that, becuase i think atleast that one thing god likes to do is give us hints as to his smaller intentions and keep us guessing.

Kinda like a dad whos just gotten a present for his daughter and "wont tell" so she gets all exited over the fact.
no clue whats going on but both people are thrilled at the idea (whatever it is)

Have fun with that :)

Go to rebirthing classes, dude. The overwhelming scientific and logical evidence is that god does not exist. The Bible is no proof of anything, as it is self-referential, and therefore commits the fallacy of circular logic.

If christians want the rest of us to live by their rules, then the burden of proof is on them to supply real, empirically derived evidence as to why we should.

Richard Dawkins in his "The God Delusion" pretty much proves the non-existence of god. I commend his book to you.

"The bible, as we know, was God-breathed (inspired)."

THIS IS AN ASSUMPTION. PROVE IT.

"Scripture was written with the assumption that God already exists"

true

"there was no question about it "

WRONG, THERE ARE MANY QUESTIONS ABOUT IT.

Wrong. As you stated, the bible was written with the “assumption” that there is a god. Christianity is based entirely on assumption.

This is one of those things that will never be settled. Man wrote the bible. Whether it is was God inspired we'll never know. Man created religion. Whether it is God inspired we'll never know.

To me neither was God inspired. There is too many human emotions to have been anything from a God.

lol - no.

you have a belief that god exists, not an assumption. you need to support beliefs with facts.

non beleivers have facts (science) to prove what they think about the world, they don't go around saying things they believe in is true without proof.
