"is" is used in a sentence when the subject is SINGULAR...
Eg:He is tall
She is fair
"are" is used in a sentence when the subject is PLURAL..
Eg:They are playing football
They enjoyed the movie,etc.
and...
am is used only with I
Eg:I am hungry
Am I correct?,etc.

I am - Am is only used when speaking or writing about just yourself.

He is, she is, Bill is, etc. - Is should be used when referring to a single person

We are, they are, Americans are - Are is used when referring to a group of people
