There probably isn't active discrimination, but it always helps to be part of a church or religious community in such situations. Members help one another, and I suspect most atheists don't have the kind of network of practical or emotional support churches provide to new immigrants, etc.

Why would it be?
Americans are of many different religions, and people immigrate to America from around the world... secular societies, Christian societies, Islamic societies, Buddhist societies, etc.
I don't believe they would ask your religion on a form. And I know that almost all universities and jobs have a statement on their application saying that they do not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, religion, etc.

Having filled out these forms in triplicate for my husband, I can say that there is no line for disclosure of religious beliefs or lack thereof. :o)

If they are openly atheist, maybe.

To get a green card, you have to be employed, and essentially, your boss has to do you a FAVOR....so it depends on the boss.
