Or do you just buy it at a bait store? It sure does save you money if you find it yourself. My daughter has a blast looking for worms. So far, she has more fun doing that than the actual fishing.

I used to before i moved to FL ,(its mostly all sand here not many worms )

I used to catch salamanders and crawfish out of creeks in NC for bait, catch nightcrawlers at night , gather catalpa worms , and taught my ex girlfriends kids how to catch bait too.

The 2 girls had a blast catching critters out of the creek , they would hunt bait for hours and end up getting every pair of shoes they had wet and muddy, lol. They spend their spare time playing with the bait while we were fishing also. We had a lot of fun and great memories doing that

Depends on what you are fishing for. Some fish, live bait, others we catch on lures.

Funnest time catching worms is early in the morning, around dawn, or soon after. The crawlers will be joined, and you have to be quick. Grab them, concentrate on one until you get the hang of it, and pull gently. Not too hard though! Just hang on to him until he gives up. After about 10-30 seconds, the worm will give up and slide easily out of the hole.

It saves you money if you fish a lot.

Good luck fishing, let me know how you do :-)

if you want a real neat and easy way to find worms. Take an extension cord and strip off the last foot of wire and plug(not the end that you plug into the outlet) Wrap the wire around a couple of screw drivers and tape up real good with electrical tape. Now stick both screwdrivers into the ground about 3-4 feet apart and plug in the cord. The worms will come right upout of the ground like a whale breaching. You get a little twinge when you step or touch the ground in between the screwdrivers so be careful.

I waste my money at bait shops.... I want to dig for my own worms but I do now think that there are any around where I live. I live near the ocean and I have mainly sand not dirt...LOL.

Well i don't dig up my bait because i rarely use night crawlers or worms. but i do capture some crawfish which are usually found around the shores of most lakes where i live.

I prefer going to the herbal whole earth bait house and buying free-range worms that haven't been fed hormones.

Who can deny a youngster the pleasure of digging their own worms...not me! We used to dig ours by the bank of the lake or river we fished.
