it does me...it implies to me that god wasn't with other people who were hurt. another one i hate is "it was their time to die." it's just stupid...do you agree?

Like god has nothing better to do than save someone's life who was just in a fender bender...... when there are children dying from starvation and being blown to bits in iraq... Oh yes, god doesn't help anyone else but you in your little car accident. lol

It was their time or "god called his child back to heaven" .... Ummm.... what? You're kidding me right!?

No. God IS with us ALL of the time. It's not stupid. One of the smartest things somebody can do is to realize that God IS right there with them! God was with the other people who were hurt too - but Romans 8:28 tells us that ALL things happen to the good of those who love God and who are called according to HIS purpose. Genesis 50:20 tells us that what Satan means for our harm, God will use for good. Psalm 91:11 tells us that God commands His angels to guard us in all of our ways. Some people are so stubborn that it takes a major setback to get them to realize that they need to rely on GOD for everything in their lives. God also allows us to go through difficult times so that we can be more qualified to help somebody else facing the same situation - it enables us to be truly empathetic when we have gone through the same thing ourselves.

GOD is the author of life - He numbers our days and only HE knows when the last one is. Do you expect people to live forever? EVERYONE has a time to die - just because it doesn't agree with YOUR timetable for them doesn't mean it's wrong or stupid. It truly breaks my heart when children die, especially if they have died as victims of abuse; but I believe their death will serve a higher purpose. Only God sees the big picture....

Partially. Both statements are true, but often spoken at the wrong times. Sometimes the person is reacting to a traumatic event by rationalizing why it happened. Most times, they should just be quiet. There is no comfort for the hearers of those words.

It seems when things go wrong and people survive..that's the only time God is remembered. When all along bad things happen, and people don't die, it just means it wasn't their time to go.

I agree with you.
I don't think they believe in the possibility of coincidence, likelyhoods or mathematical probabilities, so they chalk everything up as "It was God's plan for it to happen that way to teach me a lesson."

I wonder what they think about victims of the Crusades who somehow escaped from being murdered by militant Christians.

I just have a problem with it because they only praise God when they are or were in some sort of danger. and that "it was their time to die" thing, i didn't wanna hear that when i lost someone but i knew it was true. so i don't find it to be stupid.

There will be a plane crash or something, and 200 people will die. There will be 6 who live, and it's all, "Praise God for letting these 6 people live!" What about the 200 who died? It's stupid.

If God was riding beside you, and you got into an accident, would you still choose to crash the car on the passengers side? If possible, I would.

Not really.

It's just an expression for most people. Anyone actually believing that god just protected them needs to lay off the medication though.
