I don't smoke, I'm only asking because my nephew was caught with it and says he smokes it in moderation.

most of these posts are stupid as hell. there is nothing wrong with smoking marijuana in moderation and there have been no scientific studies to show damage from short or long term use. the only reason it may be an issue is if it makes you really paranoid or nervous. marijuana actually dilates your bronchii helping phlegm and other foreign objects pass through your lungs easier (in opposition to nicotine, which constricts your bronchii and paralyzes the cilia in your throat the help you cough things up). hope this helps.

Yes. Smoking pot at any moderation is an issue if you live in a country were it is prohibited. The side effects of smoking marijuana in moderation aren't as serious of those as using crystal meth in moderation (if there is such a thing as using that in moderation). The major reason why marijuana is banned in the United States is not because of it's horrible effects, or the behavior of people who use it. It is more of an issue that it is considered a gateway drug. This means that the people who choose to intake marijuana are more likely to begin using more serious drugs in the future.

Ignorance is bliss....

No this is not a issue. It does not cause mental problems as one of your misinformed answers said.
In a recent study did in Europe marijuana was not even on the ten most dangerous drugs. Alcohol of course was.
I have a prescription for the stuff and it has done better then those colorful pills I was on. Of course I do not condone illegal use of the stuff, primarily because this is what I am supposed to say....
It will be legal for all here soon. Then it wont be such a big deal as people make it out to be.....

Yes, some people can take smoking it in large quantities and not have any effects. But it can tip some people over the edge into psychosis and a thing called depersonilisation where nothing seems real, and they can never get out of it. So while there is a chance of this, I think it should be an illegal drug still.

It depends on who the person is. Some people can smoke weed and it have no effect on them, but with others it can cause paranoia and depression.

When I used to have the odd spliff as a student I got very paraniod and very withdrawn, and would feel depressed for about a day afterwards. Most of my other friends had, and still have no issues. I made the easy choice of sticking to beer.

It's not very good for your brain cells over the long term. Like many plants, it does contain useful medicinal substances, but properly dosed and applied, not just inhaled indiscriminately. The best way to use the medicines found in marijuana is not inhaling the smoke from burning the leaf but ingesting the refined resin.
I have many friends from my college days who have discovered long-term problems from excessive use back in the day. That was 25 yrs ago and the cognitive impairment is showing up now that they're older. Your body doesn't renew itself eternally--it's called aging. And if you mess your brain up you pay.

I am afraid it is, despite the suggestion of the PC brigade. It is addictive, increases the risk of depression and schizophrenia, especially in the already susceptible, which often unfortunately is well represented in those that do use it. Also ALL chronic users will develop a degree of brain atrophy = shrinkage, this will both cause and accelerate dementia in later life.

It's an issue because it is an illegal substance and since it's illegal, it's not made by a reliable company with rules and restrictions. So you are commiting a crime and you are risking your life since you don't know what they may have added to it. Also, you are dealing with a criminal elements to get the marijuana and also risking your life. Haven't you heard of drug related shootings, stabbings, robberies, etc.
